After going back and looking at the posts from the last year i think i know what i am going to do for rear on my 67rs.What i didn't see much of was the front. Are 235/60/15's to much for the front without power steering or would 225's be better.

No, I dont think so. I ran 245's for quite a few years before I purchased my current 16" wheels.

Hey Guys,

So am I to assume that a 245/50 16 fit the front on a 67 Camaro?

Yes, I'm running 245/50-16 on 8" rims 4.75BS. They rub slightly on the frame at full lock when in motion, but nothing to die for.

What is the best way to clean the white lettering on tires?

The bigger you go with manual steering the more difficult it will be to turn.

My '68 is non-power and I am running 195/75x15, but my car is also set up for "straight line" use.

Good luck,
Mike

Hey JMR1965,

First off, thanks for the reply. Do you think a 4.5 BS would be a better fit, seeing as how that would put the wheel a little further away from the frame?

Thanks,
Vic

The best stuff I have found to clean tires in general is called Bleech or something like that. It is sold at most parts stores. I use it to clean the wide whitewalls on my father-in-law's '57 Chevy. It does a great job.

67RS RAG,

I installed a 69 stock disc brake set up with single piston callipers as per David Pozzi’s direction, by machining the drum brake spindle. The hubs came farther apart about half-inch per side. After that, I put Moog springs No.5536 cut to 14” free height giving me 500+ lbs/inch for a distance of 14.125” from the wheel hub to the guard lip. The body is sitting level front/rear with Hotchkis 2407C rear springs.

Vicburn454,

Recalling what Calc said in one of his comments, some upper guard bolts would have to be replaced for button-head ones to avoid any contact with the tyre by using 4.5 bs with 245/50-16’s on an 8-inch rim. I think this is the trade-off for running this size tyre. A 225/50-16 would give more clearance.

Jorge,

I talked to the Manager at the tire store where I am going to get my wheels, (TT II) he told me that I could only get that wheel with either a 4" or 4.75" BS. Which BS would be the better fit for that size tire? I am going to run 255/50/16 in the rear, so I assume a 4.75 BS would work. Please, if you have any advice here, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Vic

I've got 16x7 TT-II's on the front of my car with 235/55/16 tires on them. My 7" wheels have the standard 4" backspacing and the outer edge of the tire rubs on the top of the wheel well when I hit a bump. Badly. Old shocks and springs are part of that, but it would definitely be better if my tire sat another 1/2 inch or more farther in. I have the single caliper '69 disc brakes on the front, btw.

The 235 tires look kinda fat on 7" wheels, so I've thought about switching the front wheels to 8" with 4.75" backspacing like I have on the back. But that puts the "frontspacing" at 3.25", which is even more than the 3" that I have a problem with right now.

I'm undecided. There's some more info for you anyway. Maybe it helps, or maybe it just makes it harder to decide.

Vic,
In fact I’m running 255/50-16 in the rear with 4.75” BS. I don’t have rubbing problems but with the rear suspension fully compressed just on one side, I’m sure the tyre would touch on the inside because of its angle. It hasn’t occurred to me under use yet, but when I installed the rims/tyres I tried it and it happened. One more thing is that the rears look somewhat tucked inside the wells. I’d rather put 4.5” BS for the rears but because of unavailability then go to 4.75” as I’m doing now. Anyway, I’ve received many compliments as how the car looks and I like it as well.

Jorge.
