RobR Nov 6th, 02, 04:45 PM Anything and a stiff bristle brush. I had a friend that scrubbed his with a rock until I asked him what the heck he was doing and told him to try Simple Green. ------------------ Rob Rice robr54@hotmail.com http://home.attbi.com/~racrrob DjD Nov 6th, 02, 06:29 PM I don't like using anything with bleach in it around my car... Go the the grocery store and buy a box of SOS pads (for cleaning pots and pans) and after you finish washing the car dip a pad in the wash bucket and use it to scrub the entire tire... It will amaze you how well it works... I learned this when I was a little kid helping my dad keep his '63 buick wildcat looking sharp!! Almost 40 years ago and I haven't found anything that works better... ------------------ ...Dennis "The '69 (http://chevelles.com/showroom/ww.jpg), the '96 (http://www.camaroslimited.com/graphics/memcars/96ss.jpg) our local club (http://camaroslimited.com/)" and the "daily driver" (http://chevelles.com/showroom/DjD/dsc00016.jpg) drdave69 Nov 7th, 02, 03:42 AM I use a lightly diluted solution of 'Greased Lightning'. Spray it on, let it sit for a few seconds and scrub the letters with a wire brush. I use the same solvent and a plastic bristle brush for the rest of the tire. ------------------ Dave '69 Z11 Pace Car, 350/4 speed, manual top, console w/gauges, tilt rosewood wheel, AM radio ORENCH Nov 7th, 02, 02:31 PM I have to agree with DJD, even when I have used bleech wite with good results. But is there any trick to put tire dressing on the black portion without bothering the letters? ------------------ Our affair with Camaros is a live sentence without the possibility of parole. www.geocities.com/c68ss (http://www.geocities.com/c68ss) http://home.coqui.net/borench DjD Nov 7th, 02, 03:32 PM After using the SOS pad you may not need a dressing... If you do use one, try a clear or white based dressing like Turtle Wax-Tirewax. It won't leave your rear fender all splashed with black after you drive around the block, it won't color white letters and it has UV protection (helps stop tires from browning) The SOS pad won't hurt chrome but isn't advisible on painted or alum wheels. Use a piece of card board to mask off the edge of the rim when scrubbing close to it. ------------------ ...Dennis "The '69 (http://chevelles.com/showroom/ww.jpg), the '96 (http://www.camaroslimited.com/graphics/memcars/96ss.jpg) our local club (http://camaroslimited.com/)" and the "daily driver" (http://chevelles.com/showroom/DjD/dsc00016.jpg) Rsmith1969 Nov 8th, 02, 10:30 AM Posted a Reply in the section where this was First brought up, But here goes again If you Use Wesleys Bleach White Be Very Careful around Paint That stuff will strip Wax like using a Grinder, It also Tends to leave a Milky white Residue sometimes in the Black of the tire. Rsmith1969 Nov 8th, 02, 10:34 AM Orench What I do is After ( and Only AFTER ) the tire has Dried Take a Regular dish sponge and Spray it with the Tire dressing, It looks Like you hit that tire with Pure Silicone. I can make Armorall ( which I dont really like ) Look Great. |
