Anyone running Boyd Coddington Smoothie 2 wheels on a 69? I like the looks of the wide wheel lip.
I'm thinking 17" but 18" isn't out of the question.
I really like the Torque Thrust 2's but want something just a bit different. The Smoothies have a simlar look but also the difference I'm looking for.
Any pictures would be great!

Thanks
joe

Hey Joe-
I was really looking at those Smoothie 2's also. In fact, I almost bought them.

Its a really nice wheel, but I decided against it because its just too similar to the Torque Thrust II's. I know the rim design of the Smoothie is nicer, but the center section is very, very similar to the TT II's. The TT II's are nice, but just about everyone has them. I talked to a wheel dealer at Goodguys last week and he said he's selling a ton of the Smoothie 2.

Nice wheel, but I wanted something alittle more unique.

I've seen the Smoothy's on several cars at shows. I like them in the pictures, but I don't like them in person, IMHO. Something about the way they're made around the lug nut area, looks goofy.

Thanks Mark. I haven't seen any on a real car yet. It's just so hard to tell from looking at pics on their website. I'll take a closer look at the lug area.

I am running them on my 69. 17x8's in the front and 17x10 in the rear. I wanted TTII's, but everyone had them. It looks like these may be no different.

One problem with the Smoothies, 13" C4 brakes will not fit. The rim section of the wheel doesn't have as large of a diameter behind the spokes as TTII's and interferes with the caliper. Also the valve stems are located behind the spokes, and create an interference, but 12" C4's will fit.

I almost got screwed because my wheels have the valve stem behind the spokes. I had to get those flush mount kind, and it is very close, I couldn't even run the little dust covers on them.

Thanks, Brandon. Good points. I didn't know about the rear valve stems. I have stock brakes so that won't be a problem. How about tie rod end clearance?

What backspacing and tires are you running? Do the 10's clear in the rear?
I am running the Hotckis front and rear springs. Do you have any rubbing?
Don't suppose you have any pictures? http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

Thanks for the help.

Joe, I don't remember the BS, but I will look for it tonight. I don't have any pictures, but I'll try to borrow a digital camera.

I am also running the Hotckis front and rear springs, and the pro-motorsports spindle extenders. No clearance problems with tie rods. No problems in the font.

I have minor rubbing in the rear when it's off-camber. It doesn't rub on the road during normal driving or cornering. It typically rubs when I have to turn into a parking lot that has a steep intial angle. I plan on installing rear 98+ f boby discs on the rear soon, I think this will move the wheels slightly outboard, not sure if it will be enough. If not, new quarters are next on the list, maybe mini-tubs. The rubbing is not that bad though, because it is always at low speeds and always against a smooth surface.

Thanks, Brandon. What size and type of tire are you running. I get a bit of the same inside rubbing on my 15x7 rallyes wtih 255/60 BFG tires. Not bad; just like yours. I have room to come out as well.

Yokohoma AV550. I think they are a bit wider than most tires.

Joe G. I like your rims.
From other post's it appears that you are
running 15x7's on all 4 corners.
Could you tell me where you got them?
Also, did you spring for OEM Rings and center caps?

Thanks Alligator.
I am currently running 15x7 chrome rally wheels from Wheel Vintiques. They have a bit less offset than stock so they stick out a tad further and look deeper. 235/60 front; 255/60 rear.
No trim rings since the wheels are chrome; I am using stock center caps.
