I WANTED TO PUT 17X7 CRAGAR SS WHEELS ON THE FRONT OF MY STOCK 68 CAMARO AND 17X8 ON THE BACK. I WAS TOLD THE BACK SPACING ISN'T ENOUGH. WHAT IS THE REQUIRED BACK SPACIN? WHO MAKES A SIMILAR WHEEL AND WHAT SIZE TIRES WOULD BE OK?

American Racing makes similar wheels which are custom made with a variety of backspacings. You can check them out at wheelsforless.com. If you look at previous postings backspacing is a very common topic with wheels. After doing tons of research, I ordered a set of Classic Torq Thrust wheels: 17x9 in the rear, 5.5 backspacing and 17x7 in the front, 4.75 backspacing.

Ed,
Do you have any pictures of your car with those wheels? Are there any clearance issues?
Thanks,
Peter

What backspacing are those Cragars offered in? If you can get around 4.5" backspacing, that will work.

Peter,
I do not have the wheels yet. The wheels are a Christmas gift from my wife. They unfortunately take 4-6 weeks to arrive. I agree that 4.5 backspacing should work for the rear with a 8" wheel. If you go to some of the past postings on this topic you will find numerous pics of other members cars. I actually went under my car and took measurements to double check the size. My back tires may rub a little on the inside, not 100% sure. I plan on possibly machining a thin spacer from billet aluminum if necessary.
