I am getting a AWSOME deal on Boyd Coddington's SMOOTHIE II's http://www.billetwheel.com/Wheels/Cast/smoothie5.html These wheel's list for $330 for 17x8's and $344 for 17x10's for a total of $1348. I am getting them for $200 ea. TOTAL $800!! thats a 40% discount. These are direct from Coddington.

Anyway like most everyone else I what to triple check my back spacing choice for my 67' Firebird. I have drum brakes now but plan on getting Baer disc's sometime in the future. I have read here that there is a 1/4 in. difference between disc and drum so I may need to use a spacer with my drums til I get my disc's.

Does this sound right?

17x8 4.75 BS
17x10 5.75 BS (note: 17x9.5's are not available in these wheels)

Thanks for you input.

Is your car lowered? If it is or you plan to later I would go with a 5" back space on the front with an 8" rim unless you want the tire to be flush with the fender lip. I don't think that the 10" rim on the rear is going to work- there is only 11" total clearance between fender lip and inner wheelwell (at least on my car) so that only allows 1/2" margin of error on each side of the rim (unless you want the tire protruding from the rear wheelwell look)! I would stick with a 9" rim if they make one and go with a 5" or 5.25" backspacing. You could push and go with a 5.5" backspacing but I would not go more than that.

I have been sizing wheels/ tires for my car lately and tried on some friends' wheels to be sure what will/ wont work on my car. You should do the same before you order if you can!

choptop- thx for the reply. I am going to go with 5" BS like you suggested for the front. My car is lowered now, very low in fact. I will have to raise it up a bit with some new dropped springs.

Now on the rear I have bent in my fender lip and my measurments are closer to 12". Although I may have to mount my shocks inward with DSE mounts. According to The Tire Rack, the same tire mounted one a 10" rim is only 1/5 on an inch wider when mounted on a 9.5" rim. My Kumho's are 11" on a 9 1/2 in rim (at their widest point).

These rims only come in 8" or 10" no 9's

I've ssen these on 69's so they will fit. Look good too.
I'm toying with getting them myself. I'm not sure they are as polished as some others; have just a slight "milkyness" to them, but they still look realy good.
That's a good price. Is that a sale price from dealing direct from Coddington?

NASTY69-From what I understand every 2nd saturday of the month they have a open house of their facility and have a in store only sale at the same time. So I don't think you can get the same deal mail-order. I am not sure if the same or all the wheels are on sale.
