I am about to look for new wheels for my '69 Z-28. I want the Pro-Touring look on it.

To be able to figure out the right look I am first looking for the outer diameter to fill up the wheel houses.

So can anyone say what the original stuff had in outer diameter, I mean the 15 inch tires that was originally on the Z-28.

I will probably end up with 17 or 18 inch rims with 40 to 50 height depending on manufacturer.

I am aiming at 235 in front and 275s in the back. I have not done any minitubbing yet.

Thanks

A 235/60/15 P-metric radial is very close in diameter to the original bias ply tire.

Jan,

Based on looking at many pics during my research for the pro-touring look many guys run approximately a 26" diameter front and back.

K is correct. A 26 inch diameter tire is max for the front tire, at least on a '69. Any larger and the tire will catch the bottom corners of the fender. I trial fitted 255/50/15 (27.05 inch diameter) on my car and I couldn't turn the wheel more than 1/2 a turn each way before the tires hit the corners of the fenders.

245/40/18 are 25.5 inches tall and 255/45/18's area little over 26 tall. I just bought a set of these.
