What is the widest tire you can mount on a 7" wide wheel?
if you have a 15x7, can you go to 235 or 245/60r15 ??

I have a set of 15x7 wheels and have 235/60-15. It works fine, a little tire bulge but not bad. Not sure I would want to go any wider as it would really bulge. Hope this helps. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Years ago I put a 235/60/14 on a 14x6 rim with no problem so I imagine a 245 should fit on a 15x7 rim. It really comes down to the brand of tire and the manufacturers suggestion.

I like the bulging look. You can put a 245 on a 7 inch rim. My brother had 275's on 15x7 rims. I currently have 245/60's on my 14x6 rallys. Good luck.

I have 255/60's on my 15x7 rallys, great tire wear too! In fact,I'm getting ready to try 275/60's on in the next few days, as it appears I will have room after my 1 inch suspension drop in the back. Just as an FYI, I have 285/75/16 on my stock Suburban alloys, they're 7 inch as well. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I was always told 255 is about the safest width you can run on a 7 inch rim, that's what I have on my 69.......KZ

I run Dunlop GT Qualifier T 255/60R15 on my 15 x 7" Weld Rims with 4.5" backspacing, plenty of clearance, next time I will try 275/60R15. They are safe to run, look at the specs from the tire manufacturer, it says 7" minimum.

Now there is one other option thats even bigger!!!

Yes, 295/50-15 !!! They DO FIT!! See picture below on my 69 Camaro. They rubbed though when people were in the back seat (Hotchkis 1 1/2 in. drop Leafs), nothing damaging or visible, just a very slight inner fender rub on a 4.5" backspaced rim. A thin spacer probably would have fixed that problem. Tread width is 10"!!LINK to INDY PROFILE (http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/street_indy_profile.html)

that's nice!
thanks for you replies !

you all talk about 15" rims, what about tire width with 16" rims? then, the tire height is smaller and maybe we can go as wide, can we?

i think of a 255/50R16 on a 16x7 rim?

thanks!

If switching to 16" I would recommend going with at least 8" rims in the rear so you can run 275 on the back. You would have to use the specs listed at tirerack.com for 16" tires to see if any 275's will fit on a 7" if you wanted to go 7", but with less sidewall, its harder for the tire to bulge away from the rim.
