Vision wheels has some nice 17 wheels for 139.50 each. The downfall is that they only come in 17x8 with 4.5 or 5.25 backspace. I have a 69 with 6308 front springs and hotchkis rear springs, front disc with factory rear drum. Can I run the 17x8 4.5 bs up front with a 235 45 and the 5.25 or 4.5 with a 255 40 on the rear to take advantage of this good deal or will this set up not work? Thanks Robert

Lots of guys will reply I'm sure. I'm currently running 17 x 8 with 4.5 BS on all four corners. The fronts could stand a little more BS (I think 4.75 seems the safest/best but some say more like 5 inches). Out back 4.5 BS seems great. I run a 275/40 tire and a 1.5 inch lowering block.
Have a look...

PS. I'm running the same front springs.

Robert,
Which model does Vision Wheels offer at that price?
Thanks,

Robbm Thanks for the info. Are you rubbing at all in the front? What size front tire?
BTR69 Its the 141 silver. I think its a good price and a little different look to. They also offer the 141 chrome for 210.00 ea. in the same sizes. Robert

I ran an 8" wheel with 5.25" bs, in the front of my '68. I was also running a 255/40 17 tire. Worked fine, but the tire did hit the frame slightly at full lock. But with your smaller tire, it may not. If you're even worried about it, I wouldn't be.

When I first built the car, I cut 1 full coil out of the 6308 springs. We bounced the car as much as we could and thought it sat right. First test drive the front dropped another half an inch and rubbed on almost any bump.
I bought another set of springs and left them alone. After installation and test drive, the car is about the same height as I thought I had with the cut coils. I have comparison pics on the website. I have removed the top 2 bolts that hold the fender and inner together and a couple times last summer if I got surprized by a frost heave dip in the road, I got some light rubbing on the edge of the fender. With the bolts removed, no big deal.
I'm running 235/45/17 tires on the front.

What do you guys think of the centerline tomahawk series wheels? I kind of like the Rapid wheel. Only comes in a 17x8 with 5'' backspace though. Discount tire told me they would sell them for 175 ea. Any one seen these on a 1st gen? Would the backspacing even work? Robert
