I was looking into getting some boyd coddington 17x7 and 17x8 rims, but wanted to know what rear spacing to run. I want to make sure that if i hit a bump that the tire will go up in the fender well without scraping at all on the fender. Anyone who can help, i'd appreciate it.

I have 17x8 wheels with 5 inch backspacing on the rear of my 69. I'm running full hotchkis suspension with Baer 4-wheel disk brakes. For the tire size I have 255/45/17. I have plenty of room between the edge of wheel well and the tire. I know alot of people run a 17x9.5 wheel with 5.5 inch backspacing and 275/40/17 but its very close. I chose to go the safer route.

Forgot to mention the fronts. Sorry. I'm also running 17x8 with a 5 inch backspacing. Tire size is 235/45/17. On a 17x7 I'm not sure of the backspacing. I would probably guess a 4.5. Maybe somone else can reply about that.
