Which tires are correct for a 69 Camaro SS/RS built 03D? I have seen both Firestone Wide-O-Oval and Goodyear Poly-Glass.

View Full Version : 69 tires - which is correct Jeff S. Mar 20th, 05, 09:31 AM Which tires are correct for a 69 Camaro SS/RS built 03D? I have seen both Firestone Wide-O-Oval and Goodyear Poly-Glass. Thanks William Mar 20th, 05, 11:32 AM The standard SS tire was an F70 x 14 bias-ply blackwall but there were a number of brands and optional styles. An 03D build was probably ordered late in February. I do not know if the FG belted tires were available at that time. They are not in the Jan 2 69 ordering info; they are in the April 1 info. PL4 F70 X 14 FG BELTED WH LET TIRES PL5 F70 X 14 WHITE LETTERED TIRES PW7 F70 X 14 WHITE STRIPE TIRES PW8 F70 X 14 RED STRIPE TIRES PY4 F70 X 14 FG BELTED WH STRP TIRES PY5 F70 X 14 BELTED RED STRP TIRES Goodyear, Firestone and Uniroyal [Tiger Paws] were all used in production for the 1969 Camaro SS. I am fairly certain the Firestone "Wide-O-Oval" is a 1970 tire. 1969 style Firestones had small white letters. Jeff S. Mar 21st, 05, 03:45 PM On the bottom of my car shipper, where it says "This vehicle is equipped with ..." it lists wide-oval tires. Does this give an indication of what came on the car or is the wide-oval just a generic designation for tires at that time. The car is a California built pace car. William Mar 21st, 05, 05:13 PM If you have the shipper you should be able to tell if it was built with optional tires. If no tire option is listed it was built with blackwall F70 x 14 tires. Camaro SS window stickers/shippers had the listing of SS equipment at the bottom which included wide-oval tires. Jeff S. Mar 22nd, 05, 01:59 PM I do want to put White letter tires on the car. Which of the "period" white letter tires would be correct for the 03D date? Thanks for all the support, Team Camaro. |
