I recently bought a set of Hedman 1-3/4" headers for my '69 SB. I dropped the motor in today (several times) for a test fit and these headers fit pretty good.

I did have to trim a little off the end of the rear control arm bolt on the drivers side and there was a little interference with my Lakewood Bellhousing at one point. They are close to but don't hit the power steering box. All-in-all I'm happy with the fit.

They seem to be built pretty good too. I compared the gaskets to both the head (AFR195's) ports and the headers and they're reasonably close. I've heard some other brands can be fairly far off. They don't don't have super thick flanges or extra beefy tubes, but neither did the set of Hedman 1-1/2" headers I pulled off the car and they lasted 15 years with no leaks or problems.

I'll have to look for the p/n. I just called Summit and ordered their Hedman 1-3/4" headers for a '69 SB. I think they were about $179 plus shipping. The only negative is the cheap paint they spray on them. It's literally falling off in the box and rubs off as well. I'm having them blasted and painting them with the Eastwood hi-temp paint anyway so it doesn't matter to me.

These are not stepped.

I did notice they are about 6" longer at the collector than my old 1-1/2" set. I had to make a slight adjustment to the exhaust system with my Sawzall (hacked off about 8") so I could fit the new headers into place. I'm sure my neighbors will be understanding until I can get to the muffler shop.

For what it's worth - I've had exactly the same experience with the same headman 1-3/4" headers in my 68. The paint is burned off, but they fit good and gaskets that came with them don't leak after 3000 miles and a dozen or so 1/4 mile passes. I even trimmed the drivers side rear upper control arm bolt the same way.

I paid $179 for mine locally. Part number is 65003 for 67 - 69, #65104 for 70 - 81. (out of the PAW catalog)

Another set of headers that fit, with no modification needed, are the ones made by Flowtech. I know they're not the greatest but i got them free from the guy i bought my engine from and they went in with no problems.

Hey Eric68,, does your car have a/c? I would love to find headers that will fit a 67 or early 68 with a/c!

Destiny - schmensity. I hate headers, but you can't make it happen without them. How many nights sleep did you lose trying to figure out how to make those Pooper Headers work on your car? http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

If they are the 65003's how do the plugs clear the tubes? There were some problems using the standard and L98 angle when I took a set over to AFR. The ports on the header are bit small at 1 5/16" square. If the port is blocked even a little bit it will have a big effect on the performance of the exhaust port.

No I don't have A/C - sorry. The catalog states that they will fit with A/C but require bracket #20110 for a large piston type compressor. (Don't know if there is such a thing as a "small" piston compressor).

BTW - the drivers side header had to go in from the bottom with the oil dip stick tube removed (no big deal really).

To be honest I was so focused on making sure the motor w/headers fit in the car that I forgot to check the spark plug fit. The only problem areas are the no.s 3 & 5 plugs. They come very close to the tube. I used a large socket and a hammer and made a mighty fine (and small) clearance dent for each plug. My MSD boots now fit over them fine. The dent is toward the backside of the tube and is barely visible.

I also checked the ports. I set the gasket in place on both the heads and headers. The head ports are slightly smaller so there doesn't appear to be any overlap in the wrong direction. I did notice that the Hedman ports are a little rough here and there but I really don't think it's of any consequence. I took a few pics and I'll send them to you tomorrow.
