Just bought a 69 camaro, 350 with 3spd auto
trans. Noticed that the detent cable has been
disconnected from the carburator.Can anyone
tell me the purpose of this cable and is it necessary? The car seems to run fine without
it.Can any harm be done with it off?
I appreciate any and all help,
Charles

Its the kickdown cable, car will run without it fine but will not kickdown into lower gears when you stomp the gas.

Hook it up. It modulates the pressure in the trans. You can burn the trans w/o it.
I know of 2 trannies that got fried that way.

I have run many cars for years with no problems with the cable off, I wouldnt worry about it. The kickdown cable is not a pressure modulator like the TV cable on overdrive transmissions, 2 different animals.

Hi
I just read the last message about the detent cable on the trans. Can you tell me if I want to hook this up to the carb how do I go about this? And if I dont what can happen to the trans. The trans in question is a turbo 350.
Thanks
Jerry

you need a universal bracket that goes to back of carb or to back 2 bolts of intake also a cable i can get universal cables for you. and a piece for your carb if it isnt there depending on what carb you got. jeggs sells most of these parts
