Does anyone know off the top of their head the correct clutch disc and pressure plate size for a 69 SS Camaro with a 350/300 engine and M21 Muncie 4spd. I replaced all clutch components last week. It had a 10.4 inch set-up so I just replaced it with a 10.4. Since then, I have been told it should have an 11 inch setup. It runs great but make a chirping noise at low rpm in 1st and 2nd gears. Throwout and pilot bearing were replaced..is it OK long term to run the 10.4...what am I giving up...could that be causing my chirp at low RPM? Thanks for the help.

Should have 11" clutch. "Chirping" sounds like the trans rather than the clutch.

I have a 69z and it has the 10.4 inch clutch in it. I thought most small blocks had this size clutch. Most of the heavy duty and truck applications have an 11 inch. I just recently put a clutch in mine and stayed with the 10.4 instead of changing the flywheel from a 153 tooth to a 168 tooth, bellhousing and possibly the starter. Some flywheels are double drilled for both clutches, and it is possible to fit an 11 inch clutch on a 153 tooth flywheel if it's already drilled for it. second generation camaros used both. Most clutch experts said ther was'nt a significant difference between the 2.

My stock L-48 had an 11" one in it. pdq67

In 69, 300+ HP rated engines got the big clutch (11 incher) and flywheel (14 incher). This includes the L-48 (SS-350) and all big blocks...or another way to look at it, all SS's got the larger clutch. The Z-28 302 (290 HP) got the 10.4 clutch and the 12 inch flywheel. Obviously, a bigger clutch with more surface area will have more holding power, all things equal.

Check your bellhousing casting number...if it's XXXX403 you need the 10.4 incher. If it's XXX621, you need the 11 incher. Or, check your starter...if it has offset mounting bolts, you'd use the larger clutch. In-line mounting bolts requires the smaller set-up.

If you have the smaller set up, your SS-350 isn't a SS-350...unless someone's swapped out parts.

Cave mate, Could you explain a little bit about the chirping sound coming from transmission? I have been trying to figure out what my chirping sound is coming from. When I take off in 1 gear I sometimes get a chirp sometimes not. I thought it was the throw out bearing but it still does it after a new one. Thanks Erik...
