One of my Mark Williams C-clip eliminators for my 12 bolt is leaking and undergoing a seal replacement. Seems that leakage is pretty common for this type of mechanism no matter who the manufacturer is.

I would like to fix this permanently with a more durable seal/bearing that is designed for street/autocross and not drag racing. Since installation of the C-clip eliminators requires trimming off the old bearing housing on the axle tube, I believe I'm limited to new axle tube flanges and axles.

What would be the best way to fix this utilizing my current housing?

I've heard the C-clip eliminators are not very durable for hard cornering.
I'd replace the housing ends with a bearing type. There are a lot to choose from.

I'm going to do mine, but haven't decided on what type to use.

Strange Engineering makes a road race c-clip eliminatorthat can handle side loads(roadrace/circletrack). I priced at Summit for $130 +/-$20 but I don't remember the part number. Another choice since you are in So Cal is currie enterprises in Tustin. Don't bother with their website it is nothing but useless jeep products. If I remember right you can add ford housing ends to your current rear and then use the ford equipment to set it up. I cannot speak specifically for the 12-bolt, but I have had similar problems with a Strange C-Clip Elim. Kit for 10-Bolt 8.5" rears.

According to Strange (and as ace841 stated) they now have available an oval track/autocross kit available with tapered bearings. It is physically the same dimensions as the straight-line kit they offer so if you've modified your axle tubes for the other kit you just have to swap the ends. The catch- on 10-bolts at least, the bearings need to ride on a re-inforced, thickened axle- i.e. not the stock axle that came in 10-bolts. The kit is sold complete with Strange axles (you must specify length and spline count) for about $400.00.

Well, seems this was good timing. There's an article in the latest Car Craft on this subject.

After looking at the Mark Williams design I would not trust it on a handling-type car. I'm living and learning the hard (ignorant) way.

It seems, as spec'ed by my diff guy, that the Ford ends are the way to go.

If Ford ends are used, are Chevy-style bolt patterns available to mount the stock drum brakes? How about disk brakes, Ford, Chevy, etc.?

CarlC, I would think the Weld-On Housing Ends would fix you up. Since your in Glendale try Tom's Differentials located in Paramount. A good shop and he sells KA axels for this change ($235.00 apair) http://www.tomsdifferentials.com

Carl, Tom's diff. has the ends you would need to use the Ford bearings. I do not know if your current axle diameter is the same as a Ford, but if it is then all you need to do is reweld the ends (with the chevy brake bolt pattern) and gets some bearings! I think Tom's can do this for around $200-$250 as a bench job. More ofcourse if they must remove the rear themselves. I wish I had the ends done on my rear when I bought it but was ignorant to the option. We all live and learn!

Humm, interesting thought Joseph. If I understand you correcly you are saying to use my current MW axles but with a Ford bearing.

I guess I need to know what the bore size is for the Ford bearing. Anybody know?

With the cost of new ends and axles I could probably sell my MW axles and C-clip eliminators and not take too much of a beating.

Believe it or not Joseph I'm dead in the water on these bearings. Just my luck, and we make 1,000,000,000 pieces/year! I almost choke when the shops tell me how much they sell them for.

Try the new Oct, 2000 issue of Car Craft. I just got mine today in the mail.
It has an article about strengthening 12 bolts in it on page 48 and talks a bit about "C-clip" eliminators.
It seems the way to go is with new ford 9" axle housing ends. (O-boy, the Blue Oval does have a better idea).
