I need to remove the cowl vent grille on a 68 camaro to get to the rust undernieth but I am not sure how to remove the windshield wipers at the base. They look like they should just twist off but I don't want to break anything by forcing them off. Can anyone offer advise?
Thanks Dan

Well, I don't have my shop book handy, but you're s'posed to use some special GM wiper arm removal tool. After not being able to find one, I got a friend to help. If you hold the palm of your hand over the reciever at the closer end of the arm to the cowl, push down. Have your buddy take the arm, raise it slighly and push it twords the reciever cup. It should level out, just reach over with your other hand and pull it off. Email me at DetroitCasket@aol.com if that was too confusing.

I use a rag and channel lock pliers. Put the rag around the base of the arm so you will not scratch it then the pliers, pull and wiggle gently.

I got this one neato tool that has window handle clip removers, an edge for cutting through window sealant, moulding clip remover and a window wiper clip remover. It's somewhere in my garage. Not sure where, but if you see this thing with a red handle and all kinds of thingies sticking out, that might be it. I'll find the brand later. Anyway, there's a little clip at the base of the wiper that you need to pull out, then you just pull it off straight and it comes off easy.

You can get a wiper arm removal tool from a resto catalog, or maybe an auto parts store. I used mine yesterday and it doesn't get any easier.

I bought a simple removal tool from Rick's first generation. It works great, do it with one hand. Only around $4.50 or so. Well worth it even if you only use it once or twice.
