When I slow down or speed up my rear diff is making an ugly popping sound. I can also get it to do it when going from drive to reverse. Got under the car while someone was changing from D to R and know it isn't the U-joints. Sounds like it's coming from the front part of the diff. I haven't pulled anything apart yet. Someone told me it may be the pinion. Any ideas....I'm not a rear end guy.

Could be a pinion bearing comming apart. Is the pinion seal leaking? Most of the time when you have a pinion bearing problem the seal will leak. You should also check and see if the pinion nut is loose.

I'll be checking the nut this weekend. No leaks though.
