Last month I posted a quadrajet question about the metal baffle and gasket install proceedure. I also searched the archives and found many different opinions. Would it hurt anything if I was to install the fiber gasket first, then the metal baffle, and finally another fiber gasket then the carb?
Installing only the 1 fiber and 1 metal seems to need more torque to get a good seal (25-30lbs). The manuals show only 15lbs is needed. The install is on a stock 396 manifold with a stock rebuilt 4b quadrajet (1969)
Thanks,
Joe

Joe,
If you put a fiber gasket down first, the heat from the exhaust crossover will burn it out. That is the only reason for the stainless plate. Put the plate on by itself, there are thousands of them running fine like that.
