I was toying with the idea of installing a Com Cams 282s solid cam but I was wondering how often do you have to adjust valves? The car is only driven on weekends and taken to the track once or twice a month. I like the added torque and Hp that a solid add but i just don't know about the maintenance invilved

A lot depends on how hard you push it and the cam profile. I drove 60mi a day in a car with an O-97 and set the valves every two years and had another with a ZL-1 cam that required them to be set every month.

Like Oger said it depends.

If you run high quality roller rockers, good pushrods, and poly locks they should not need to be adjusted very often. It's a good idea to check them every oil change with a fairly high performance grind, but a milder solid cam can go for quite a while.

ps. I just drove about 750 hard miles on my 294s last weekend and the valve lash was dead on when I checked them.

good parts selection is the key. my solid roller gets checked at every oil change, and if i'm feeling like doing it before a trip to the track, and its lash stays right on, even after lots of road miles. i can't imagine ever going back to hydraulic. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I'll never go hydraulic. Solids are great and no need to adjust other than in the Spring when first getting the car out. Even then it's rare to find lash has changed. ARP studs, ground flat on top, a good set of poly locks, set them and don't worry about it until next year.
