guys,

i need help on getting my 454 flywheel off. i have all the bolts out and lubed it with penetrating lube and am prying between the flywheel and block with a bar and the thing still doesnt budge.

is there something else that i need to do to get this thing off? anything special about the externally balanced flywheels????

please help!!

thanks

As far as I know, there are six bolts that hold the flywheel to the crank. The flywheel has probably just rusted itself to the crank. I have seen this happen when trying to get a wheel off many times. Reinstall two of the flywheel bolts. Thread them in far enough to where they could support the weight of the flywheel, but leave them loose enough to where the flywheel could move off of the crank some. Now use a crow bar (or something similar) to pry the flywheel away from the crank. If that doesn't do it, try this. Take a hammer and strike the center of the flywheel (not the bolts). I would probably use a brass or a dead blow hammer. Strike it with authority, but don't hit it with everything you've got. There is the possibility that you could damage the thrust bearing. While you are striking the flywheel, use the crow bar to maintain pressure on the flywheel. That should bring it off. If it doesn't, maybe someone else will know a better way to get it off.

I would do what Cameron suggested, and apply a little heat! Flywheel has to be machined anyway.
