View Full Version : Can I brag A little?
georgia 69 Feb 17th, 05, 04:19 PM My son who is 8 was clocked at 50 mph pitching 8 out of 10 in the strike zone.He is on an 8 and under traveling tournament team,we will be in Charlotte NC next weekend at a tournament.Baseball/softball was a huge part of my life, but had to hang it up due to bad knees,it would take me 4 days to get over a weekend tournament, now I focus on his ability.Just a proud daddy bragging a bit.

zuma Feb 17th, 05, 04:36 PM Ron, sounds like you got a player there! graemlins/thumbsup.gif I have twin boys that played all the way thru high school and one is still playing college. I coached for about 10 years, man, I loved it, Watching my sons, was better than playing myself. Have fun! as you must know, but someone will disagree, baseball is the best sport there is! Enjoy your season and good luck!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif Mike

phoenixdawg Feb 17th, 05, 05:14 PM Ron did you play at Butler in HS? I played in HS and a little bit in college. I quickly realized when I got to college I was not real good.

Mister G Feb 18th, 05, 06:00 AM I was clocked at 105 when I was 16 but my dad was pissed......I was in his '64 Buick Wildcat...anyway it is nice to see a dad proud and make sure you help him take care of his arm. My good buddy has had 4 surgeries on his pitching arm. It isn't much fun, but when you are young you don't think of those things. That's why dad is so important in raising a talented young man. Best wishes.

RC Brag away Ron... graemlins/thumbsup.gif don't push too hard and let him find his nitch. My daughter has been playing since t-ball (5yrs old) and is a freshman this year on the JV team. My wife and I have coached and managed for years and I've seen coaches and parents wreck the sport for their kids by insisting they play a position and force them into it. At 8 the best for your boy is to play as many positions as possible so he becomes a well rounded player by the time he hits highschool. Since he's excelling as a pitcher now it's a good sign that's what he'll want to stay with as he gets older unless the coach forces him to pitch when he's tired or dad makes him practice pitching instead of just playing catch with him...
As I said my daughter started at age 5 in t-ball and at 14 now excells in catching, 1st base and short stop. She can pitch in a pinch if needed. The season is about to start and her JV coach has sent her over to catch practice with the varsity team a couple times. Her friend has only pitched her whole carreer so far and is good at it but may not make the JV cut because there are several other pitchers trying out and she doesn't have other positions to fall back on... This all came about because the youth leagues don't force the coaches to move the kids around like they should. This really happens a lot and traveling teams being more competive and win oriented is where it happens the most.
Sounds like you have a great little ball player on your hands... graemlins/beers.gif
