I have a 1994 Dodge Intrepid that just died graemlins/sad.gif . While driving on the street today, the engine "without warning" just shut off. When I coasted over on the side of the road, I tried starting it, but it seems like its not getting any fire, the motor just turns and turns. I didn't bother trying to turn it over too many times from fear that the timimg belt may have broken and I didn't want to damage the valves. Right now I'm sitting in the house and have to go to work in a few hours so I havent had time to remove the timimg cover yet for inspection. Before I do anything, what do you guys think may have caused this? Need help bad (I am really growing tired of this thing) :mad:

A common failure on modern cars is a faulty crank shaft position sensor, or a cam shaft position sensor (a.k.a. distribtor pickup). The ECM needs these signals to determine ignition and fuel injection sequences. If the sensor is damage, the ECU will not turn on ignition or fuel until it detects at least two revolutions of the engine.

Most service manuals (Haynes included) have diagnostic procedures for these sensors. It involves a Digital Volt Meter, some straight pins and test leads. Also, these two sensors often share the same power and ground. If your readings are skewed on both, try disconnecting one while testing the other.
