The blown 68 is out of the shop, runs great..but runs hot.
I have a 6-71 blower w/a 383 sbc, and a comp cams hydr. cam (less then .580 lift). Using a Aluminum radiator (no name) and a flexalite 220 fan setup (dual fan). In 86 degree weather while cruising around about 30-40 mph it will get to 210 degrees. From BDS I bought their drive kit and it came w/a 180 degree thermostat..will it help if I replace it with a 160? I'm also running a Moroso (or a Milodon..forget the brand) high volume water pump.
What do you run (temperature wise) and what is the temperature outside?
Thanks
Alex

:eek:Stay Away from the Moroso aluminum belt drive pump!!!! It only flows 6 gallons a minute on a good day. The best belt drive pump on the market is the Edelbrock Victor series. They did their homework and created a pump with eaven flow and consistent pressures. The Moroso design is ancient, early Corvette design with low flow impeller.

belt driven? you mean a v-belt? I have a milodon aluminum hi-vol water pump..i will try it without a t-stat and see if it runs any better.

My father in law uses an electric on his blower motor, reverse flow forget the name off hand but can find out for you. He had the same problem with the hot temps. but now it runs a cool 180.
I'ts a 426 HEMI with BDS 8-71 20% overdrive. Hope this helps you!!

Just my opinion. I don't think your electric fan setup will keep it cool anyway on a warm day. IMHO I believe you need to call Houston Performance (they have a web site) and get one of there Mark VIII Electric fans. It will keep your motor cool.

i double checked on the Mark VIII fans..they flow about 2250 cfm, my flexalite 220 flows 2500... I'm going to try it w/o a thermostat + a impeller kit to see if that helps out any.

The Mark VIII fans are rated at 4000-5000 cfm; trust me, they blow away the one you have!

Yes it is; they don't list the fans on their website, but they do carry them. You also need a 60-75 amp relay, a standard 40 amp Bosch won't cut it. See if they have that also. You will be pleased with the fan. How much room do you have between the motor and the radiator? This fan is about 5" but can be trimmed back to about 4". You also may be able to offset the unit slightly for clearance which is what I did with my big block 69. That fan flat out works!
