: Throttle Linkage ideas
69CamaroRacer Jul 1st, 04, 10:03 AM I am looking for some throttle linkage Ideas that any of you might have. I have the makings of a really nice combo but all I have for a throttle linkage is an old beat up, bent up metal rod that is always slipping out of place. I am concidering a cable but anything that looks cool and functions well would be worth concidering. SO do u guys have any Ideas?
ZZ430DropTop67RS Jul 1st, 04, 10:30 AM Lokar all the way, pedal, cable, spring, and bracket.
This is what I did on a 69 Camaro:

I see you're running an auto trans too, this is for a 700R4 TV cable, but it would work for the TH350 detent cable too.

69CamaroRacer Jul 1st, 04, 10:34 AM how much did that cost???
ZZ430DropTop67RS Jul 1st, 04, 10:44 AM Pedal was $75, throttle cable $26, detent cable $56, bracket/springs $22.

Find the section that has slimline ball joint linkages. Bend a section of 1/4" bar to size, add threads to the ends, and add your preferred link.
I used a quick disconnect on the carb and a shielded link for the firewall arm. $5.18 for both.
There are bushings available that fit into the Holley 1/2" throttle linkage hole that reduce to 1/4". These will work for the throttle arm hole as well.
gjohnson Jul 1st, 04, 06:26 PM Carl, I ordered my Gates Power Grip hose clamps from McMaster and got them in 2 days, very nice people, nice price and FAST service. I still haven't been able to open anything from their web page. I just called them and told them what I was looking for and they faxed me the page I needed to choose the size's needed.
I'll be checking on those linkage components next!
Thanks,
Guy
CarlC Jul 1st, 04, 07:50 PM I'm glad they worked out for you Guy. Be sure to heat the clamp well, and allow it to cool before trying to twist the hose. If you have the correct sizes, and heated sufficiently, you will tear the hose before the clamp lets go.
Before spending a lot of $ on what companies make you think are "special" parts, check with McMaster Carr, Grainger, etc. They carry many of the same parts in bulk.
For example, MSD offers wire guides, the type that you weave two wires through and it holds them about 1" apart. These are standard electrical wiring parts, available for dirt cheap. AN stainless washers? Super cheap when you buy 100pc bulk, but 100 pcs does not last long on a car.
Mat Klemp Jul 3rd, 04, 05:38 PM I just installed the cable throttle from a '72 6 cyl NOVA. Cable from a '93 roadmaster, ( I had to use a file to make the hole rectangular in the firewall, and a Buick carb cable mounting bracket (for a Q-Jet)

prostreet69camaro Jul 4th, 04, 03:15 AM I ordered the Lokar cable kit and used the pedal from a 74 to 78 nova or same type car. The pedal will fit the same plastic bracket on the fire wall. Instead of the bracket for the rod on the outside it uses a C clip to hold it. You might have to drill a hole in the fire wall for the cable to hook to the pedal. Also if you go to the junk yard for the pedal grab some extra cables. I messed mine up the first time pushing it to the motor.
I used some SS rod with the ball swivel ends the first time. I also got them from McMaster car. They are real nice when you polish them. There was only one problem that I had. I was doing a burnout in the driveway and the throttle stuck and I mowed down my tool boxes and knock downed the garage wall. Plus my car did not take it to good. Also a month before a Super Chevy show. What a B*tch. That is why I went with the cable system. No more throttle problems.
jgreen Jul 25th, 04, 08:56 AM I've got the Lokar pedal and throttle bracket assemblies, but still need to order the cable. What cable length fits correctly for a '69?
