Add drivetrain, suspension, interior, front sheetmetal, wiring, lighting, trim, chrome, wheels, glas s. The final price could be staggering. P-Trooper Sep 8th, 04, 05:59 PM Where have you seen the shells for sale?? I thought it was just a rumor?? Sean trentonZ28 Sep 9th, 04, 12:40 AM The new Classic Industries catalog, I believe it's page 367. I don't have the catalog with me, but it's in there. See my other reply to you in the other post. It may even help them. Take for example all of the clone cars (Z/28's, COPO's, Yenko's, etc.) that are floating around. Creating clones doesn't detract from the value of the real thing. In fact, it shows that the originals are so highly desired that someone will go through the expense and effort to make a copy. This makes the real thing even more desirable because we are "popularizing" them. Look at the Shelby Cobra which is the most copied car in the world. There are literally thousands of clones but the originals are still skyrocketing in value. Most clone owners probably dream of having the real thing, just can't afford it. Almost everything follows this same principle whether it's antiques, cars, or whatever. I'm sure there are exceptions but having an original Camaro will outweigh having a copy in my book any day. JMO paulm Sep 9th, 04, 12:29 PM It will be strange that a repop car will cost more than a "real" car to complete. I wonder if that will up the price of the real cars. I just can't imagine how much it would cost to build a repop camaro if you were starting with nothing!!!  jethro Sep 9th, 04, 12:36 PM I've been following this issue for about 4 months now off and on, and I'm personally convinced of two things: 1. It is inevitable. 2. It will increase the value of "real" Camaros. trex70 Sep 9th, 04, 01:22 PM I agree, I think it will anly help the value of the real thing. You can get the repop with all doors, front fenders, hood, trunk, etc for around 14000 grand through c.a.r.s. (i think). The drop tops are all that is available now, at the first of the year hard tops will be available. Price will be around 15 grand. I think it is a good price, I bought a rust/bondo bucket and spent a ton of money and time on it. If this would have been an option five years ago, I would have bought one, and I still might. Mustangs and Cuda are said to becoming....if so, I think I have a hemi in my future!!! I am also considering starting to build these for customers. It would be nice if you could order one with mini tubs already welded in. I got my info from the oct 04 hot rod, so it must be true!? pgreen Sep 10th, 04, 04:06 AM Just think what the car shows are going to be like 5 or 10 years from now. 100,s of 69 repop camaros all over the place, taking first place over an original car. For 10-15K I would redo a original car. Pat ssdanny69 Sep 10th, 04, 06:25 AM It's a double-edged sword....for the real enthusiast, I think it's great b/c you can use the shell and the trim tag from an original car for the restoration, if the original to be restored can't be saved. On the other hand, who's to stop anyone from buying the sheel and going to trim tag.com to fake a car and resell? YouthTronix Sep 10th, 04, 02:39 PM It was on the cover of hot rod magazine this month. Convertable shells for 12 grand. The company will also be selling ENTIRE turn key cars for around 40k they said. Not to bad considering its a complete finished product. How much does a full frame off cost these days? I personally think its going to make the value of our cars go WAY up. Not like they arent already, but this will help even more. And yea there is the problem of fakes and what not. I am sure they will devise some way to make it all work out. There is also the part that GM may not give these companies the license to the camaro name, so they would have to call them something completely different, so that kind of sucks, but oh well. All in all I think its a great thing. The values of the real machines are going up so much now, its hard for alot of people to afford them. I think in the coming years, when these come down in price more, it will bring in even more people to the muscle car scene, which is excellent. loaded67 Sep 10th, 04, 03:11 PM In a few years, there will be more rare 69 RS SS and Z28 camaros, than there was in 1969. Then the questions will be, how can I tell if this 69 is real or someones kit car? 67 Plum Sep 11th, 04, 09:50 AM There are more 69 RS SS and Z28s now than there were in 1969.I think they need to be able to put new VIN numbers and other markings on the new bodies to be able to easily tell them apart from the originals. novaderrik Sep 11th, 04, 04:57 PM CARS i getting certified as a car manufacturer, and are thus going to be able to put their own VIN number on them. as for getting them with mini tubs, it says in the article that down the road, they will offer DSE mini tubs as an option. how much would it really cost to get a complete car out of one of these shells? well, if i was to get one of the complete shells, and stab the running gear out of my Nova under it- subframe, engine, tranny, rear end- that would cut the costs considerably, wouldn't it? there are so many 4 door Novas and what not out there just waiting to donate parts to these shells. maybe they should team up with Wayne Due and sell 69 Camaro rolling shells with front and rear C4 or C5 suspensions under them. that would be neat. shadow53 Sep 11th, 04, 06:42 PM Even though repop bodies are for sale now I don't think that we'll start seeing Camaros at every stop light. What do they cost..about 10-14k? Not too many people have that money on tap. And those that do I'm sure would rather spend their money on an "original" complete car rather than a shell. Guess we'll just have to keep an open mind and wait and see what happens. |
