I just got my Quadrajet back from being rebuilt and it isn't working so well at all. Its a 4 barrel car on a 327 with a 4-speed (68 Camaro). When the car is shut off it wants to continue to run?...anyone know why this could be?...I have adjusted the air and fuel screws that are located in the front and it also seems to be idling fast as well. I haven't worked on too many carbs. but it wasn't doing this before it was rebuilt so now I'm wondering what the garage did to it. Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Travis

Make sure the fast idle cam is completely releasing. Its the lever looking thing on the pass. side of the pri. throttle shaft.

what's the timing set at?
you didn't mention if you actually played with the idle speed screw on the driver's side of the carb. with the engine off, turn it out until it doesn't hit the throttle arm any more, then turn it in until it just starts to open the throttle and start it up and adjust the idle from there. do thus when it's up to temp and the choke is opened up- you DID hook the choke up, right? if not, then it will always be closed and it will always be on fast idle- like oger said.
vacuum leaks will cause the fast idle and the run-on, as well. check and re-check every hose and bolt and make sure all is well, and if that doean't do it, pull back the timing a bit and see what happens.

did you re-install the thin metal plate between the carb and the manifold?

I got it straightened out, I had the idle set a bit to fast and since I have headers on the car I no longer have a heat damper so I will end up either getting an electeric choke on it or putting a manual choke on it.
