This is not concerning my camaro, this is with my 1994 Dodge Intrepid ES. I am having a really hard time trying to get this thing through emissions. I attached a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail service valve and can't seem to get a steady reading for the life of me. The gauge is supposed to read a steady 48 psi with the engine running. My readings seem to jump up and down constantly within a 5 to 10 psi range. I am thinking that I may need a new fuel pump. But before I run out and fork over $125 for this thing, is there any other areas that I should be looking at?

Try another gauge, particularly a liquid-filled, 0-100 psi. Can be gotten from www.mcmaster-carr.com. (http://www.mcmaster-carr.com.)

Might run a hot wire from the battery to the pump connector at the tank, both sides, may have a burnt contact relay. Monitor current draw, if jumpy like fuel flow, could be bad wire connections if not its controlling relay. If current draw is steady, then its the pump.

Try gauge, relay, wiring then pump, not in that order....

Thanks. Ill start with the hot wire first and will get back to you :)

Is the idle choppy? If the car has a vacuum diaphragm type fuel pressure regulator, and it's misfiring, it might fluctuate a bunch?
