I am running a stock 1977 350 with an Edelbrock 4 bbl intake in my car. I've used the rams-horn exhaust manifolds for a nostagic appearance. I'd like to also use the valve covers from a 1966 V8 which leads me to my question... The intake has a place to drill out to use the old oil filler/breather tube set-up. If I swap the covers and add the filler tube in the intake will the engine breath ok and not blow any gaskets or oil?
Has anyone tried this and been successful?
Thanks inadvance for any help!! http://www.camaros.net/forum/confused.gif

Can you do it from a visual smog check standpoint in your state?? That's all I ould wonder about..
And cool that you can run the better Ram's horn manifolds, most can't b/c the subframes in the first and sec. gen. cars won't allow them. pdq67

Thanks for the come-back... In Massachusetts they do only a safty check for an inspection up to 1984. From 1985 on it's a different story. You gotta pass the sniffer test. I guess I'll drill the hole and install the filler tube !! http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

If the '66 valve covers don't have holes for a PCV valve or PCV intake from the air cleaner and all you have is the old-style fill tube with a twist-on sealed cap, you'll blow a seal or gasket someplace, as there's nowhere to relieve crankcase pressure. Even if you use a push-on ventilated breather cap on the fill tube, you'll blow hot oil mist out of it all over everything. You need a fresh air intake someplace and a PCV valve/hose to the carb base from another location to ventilate the crankcase; without a closed PCV system, anywhere you put a breather, you'll blow hot oil mist.

Sounds like I should leave things as they are!?

Camaros did not use rams horn manifolds from the factory. They were usualy found on full size cars etc. That being said, I do know that some of these manifolds WILL fit the Camaro. That was the first thing I pulled off my car back in the late 70's was a set of full size car rams horn manifolds for a set of cheapie Eagle headers. I wish now I had kept those headers. They were a much better set than these high dollar Hookers I have now.

The engines those valve covers came on had a sealed cap on the oil fill tube, and a bung welded on the tube with a PCV valve and hose to the carb base as the "exhaust" side of the PCV system, and they had the "intake" side of the system from the air cleaner base through a hose and tube into a hole cast into the back of the block (which your block doesn't have). There are ways to "cobble" a system that will work, but all of them require drilling a hole in at least one valve cover for an intake breather or for a PCV valve.

Thanks for the help! I still think that the best thing to do is to leave the motor alone and dress it for what it is!
Thanks and happy holidays to you all!!! http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
