All, Any help appreciated. I have a 68 Camaro with a 70 ls-5, 454 in it. Stock. Q-jet #7040200 k9ee on it. Car has been running really rich, fouling plugs, black soot in exhaust, gas smell. It has started flooding out and I’m going to rebuild the carb. What jet numbers would you recommend for a starting point at Denver’s altitude? What would be the best rebuild kit? Any other pointers would be really welcome.
m-20 tranny, 4.11 rear end, headers.
Thanks

I'll give this a shot. It is almost impossible to set up the Q-Jet on the net. You have other problems with the flooding. First, get a decent rebuild kit at your favorite parts store and a NEW float. Properly soak the disassembled carb in cleaner and make sure you can blow dry the fuel/air passages. TAKE YOUR TIME!!!! Reasemble the carb according to the instructions (if you are new at this) and make a written note of the #'s on the metering rods and the jets. Put it back on the car and get it working right. From there, you can adjust the metering rods/jets as needed.

Your rebuild kit should come with an instruction sheet that lists carb numbers and their stock specifications, including jet and metering rod sizes. That's the best place to start. You can also find this info on the internet if you look around some.
