: powerglide linkage
68SS350something Oct 5th, 01, 01:13 PM i have a 68SS with a new powerglide in it. it appears the bracket on the tranny is for a colum shifter and i have a factory floor shifter. the cable wont take the bend to make it all work. what do i need to fix this correctly?
cavemate Oct 5th, 01, 05:09 PM This is probably not the best answer, but it's an answer to the problem. If you can find a trans FOR floorshift, the selector rod can be removed without removing the trans in your car. Simply removing the pan and the rod
68SS350something Oct 5th, 01, 05:12 PM i have the floor shifter, what i need is the part that goes in the transmission.
cavemate Oct 5th, 01, 05:49 PM By selector rod, I mean the part ON THE TRANS that the shifter cable attaches to..it is removable.
68SS350something Oct 7th, 01, 01:52 PM ok, where do i get one? and will it be listed as a selector rod? if i get this and a new cable kit is it all i need, or is there going to be more?
68SS350something Oct 17th, 01, 09:05 AM no one has an answer??
KevinW Oct 17th, 01, 10:43 AM 68SS350something,
I have a floor shifted 69 powerglide. If my memory serves, the cable goes through floor pointing forward and then does a 180 downward to connect to a hole on the bottom part of the trans bracket. The lockout rod is attached there as well.
Exactly how does yours NOT work?
I can try to take a closer look tonight.

KevinW Oct 17th, 01, 03:58 PM Well, memory did not serve http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif The cable does an "S" curve and attaches to a bracket held on by the pan bolts to serve as the fixed point. From there the cable end points towards the front and attaches to the trans selector from inside the "U" in the rearmost hole. The front hole is used for the lockout linkage and the inside the "U" hole is used for the kick down linkage. This is documented in the assembly guide under the M35 chapter.
So, what part of all that mess are you missing?

68SS350something Oct 18th, 01, 04:28 AM its the actual part that goes into the tranny. the one the cable end attaches to. the one i have isnt right and i am looking for the correct one.
Rob.Canada Oct 20th, 01, 01:51 PM As for your problem I took a 10/32 screw and bolted it solid in the hole on the arm that is attached to the trans, ( you may need some washer) I slid the cable over the screw, Using two nuts I locked them together with out tightening against the cable, At the shifter you adjust for thr proper length and function,
cavemate Oct 20th, 01, 04:05 PM The proper way is to find a floor shift PG and remove the complete selector shaft from it. The hardest part is finding the part. To replace it, you remove the pan and you'll see what's involved.

68SS350something Oct 21st, 01, 07:46 AM thats what im running into, trying to find the correct part. so far its impossible. as for the 10-32 screw idea, i might have to do just that until i locate the correct part. any idea's where to find such a rare animal?
cavemate Oct 21st, 01, 08:12 AM They're getting rare because so many guys are using the PG for racing..I had 4 PGs sitting in my shop and some guy walked up out of the blue and bought them all. I wouls start by looking locally..If someone has it farther away, they're most likely not going to have JUST the shaft...Also, did you check Classic Industries? I think they sold a conversion kit. Not sure but they may. One more thing..there is a guy in my area that has all kinds of little Camaro parts. His name is Steve. Give him a call (425) 787-3309.
68SS350something Oct 21st, 01, 02:44 PM yeah, seems all those type parts i just missed, or there just arent any. the 10-32 bolt idea sounds like it will work as a "for now" thing. i will keep looking
