What would be the best motor mount to use for installing a 1967 malibu 327cu. into a "69" Z28. I know that the various mount have height differences, that can cause alignment and vibration problems.

Either stock 69 interlocking mounts, which are thicker than 67 or 68 mounts.
Or get the energy suspension interlocking mounts for a 69.

The 69 frame mounts are shorter than 67 or 68. to compensate for the thicker motor mounts.

It sounds silly to me that the 302 mounts are different than the 327 mounts from the factory. I know that's how they came, but I have a different theory than the vibration problem. I think the 1 inch offset was to allow more room for headers on the TranAm Racing series cars. I just installed a 327 in a 68 big block car using the big block mounts which are the same as the 302 mounts. I have to get a throttle return spring and mufflers before I test drive it, but I'll let you know if there are any drivetrain vibration problems. Has anyone else ever use the "incorrect" motor mounts? I'd be interested to hear some replies good or bad.

It wasn't vibration problems, The early non interlocking mounts would tear apart and the engine would rise up on the drivers side under acceleration and it was possible for it to pull on the throttle rod locking the throttle open.
The engine also could come down off center and land on the steering linkage passing under the oil pan.
Having a jammed throttle and no steering would be bad.

I broke the drivers side motor mount twice on my 67 when it was new. The dealer replaced it on warranty twice. The third time I welded plates on each side to make it solid.

Eventually GM did a recall on all 67 and 68 Camaros and added a cable resraint to prevent loss of control but it still would not prevent the mount breaking.

I believe you can now buy a 67-68 thin mount that is the interlocking type.
I have a pair of the thin type Energy Suspension engine mounts in black for my 67.

The 69 big block frame mounts used one short on the passenger side, and one tall on the drivers side, to move the engine to the passenger side.

This is interesting and has me concerned. I am getting ready to drop in my 350 with the energy suspension mounts in place of my 327, will there be any problems that I should be aware of?

CA420,

I did the same swap that you are considering.

No problems. Can you believe it? An aftermarket part and no problems!!

Thanks Carl, I am ready to put the new engine and tranny in and want as little grief as possible.

ca420,
Did you get the 67-68 type short motor mounts?
If so, you should be O.K.
They make a similar type trans mount too.
Remember to put the pass side motor mount through bolt in from the rear and you won't have to remove the fuel pump if you have to raise the engine to install headers or pull the pan.

I used the Energy Suspension engine and transmission mounts when installing my 383 and Tremec in my 67 and everything fits great.

As David suggested, I put the passenger side bolt in from the back as to not disturb the fuel pump.

Just wanted to note to that my old 327/275 had the cable strap on the left side to hold the motor.

CarlC....Pulled the engine last weekend and it was my first opportunity to try that nice Earl's swivel connector on the inlet side of my Edelbrock 1721 fuel pump and it didn't fit. Back to the drawing board.

memcgraw,

Those 180* inlet/outlet pumps are a huge pain. Torker is going through that experience now. I run, if my memory serves me, a high-perfromance Carter pump with the stock in/out locations that I purchased at Pep Boys. Not glamourous but effective. Good luck on finding a fitting that will fit.
