: Anyone have feedback on C.A.T. Engine Parts?

If anyone has any feedback on the parts manufactured by this company, I would love to hear them. They make several nodular and steel crankshafts, rods, etc. There are several people on Ebay selling these parts, and they seem very inexpensive (you get what you pay for?). I hate to judge them ahead of time, just need the facts. Here is a link to their website.

These parts are made in China, I think they would be fine for stock or near stock applications. For true high performance, I would have some concern. Same with Pro-form.

I don't see why ANYBODY would knowingly buy ANY part made in CHINA!

What is wrong with Chinese, Japanes parts???

I have a Honda F-1 Rice-Rocket that redlines at 12,500 RPM - obviously something is built right with Japanese motors. Don't get me wrong - I love the US, but we could learn something from the Asian industries about building motors. You must remember, the 1.9L motors that crank out 500 hp at 9000 RPM - and they will take 9000 RPM all day long. Then there's a technology called VTEC. Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Control or something. Not only do they get tons of HP, they also get incredible fuel economy, as opposed to our comprable motors that get 5-10 mpg. If the Japanese were to make a big block - holy SH*T, hold on to your @SS - it would rock hard.

In conclusion, dont rag on Asian markets. In today's society, we are a global market. We can all benefit from sharing technologies. Imagine a factory car with a small-block V8 that put out 1,400 HP, and 2,000 ft-lbs of torque. The problem then would not be enough power, but rather a strong enough chassis to support that frame-bending torque.

I'll get off the soap box now.

Where were Japanese parts mentioned? Maybe you think your Honda was made in China http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif, I don't know. There is NO comparison between the two in quality. I am in the CNC machine shop busines, ALL my machine tools are made in JAPAN. Some of my friends have bought machines made in CHINA, they save $15,000.00 to $20,000.00 on the purchase but after 12 to 15 months they find what a piece of crap they own, the accuracy and dependability are not there. Not to mention resale value.

I don't think China puts more quality in thier aftermarket car parts than a $60,000.00 machine tool.

Just my opinion from what I see in real life.

Has anyone ever bought an aftermarket part made in china and found it to be of excellent quality?

GREAT, the Chinese are making our auto parts now! I, for one, cannot wait to open my next fortune cookie and find a crankshaft inside!

China making parts or tools and everything else:
I wish we would take people we have in prison and force them to make products for the mass market and pay them nothing but rice and water for it. Just think of the quality you can get out of someone motivated by no pay and being lucky enough to survive the night, just to wake up for a bowl of rice a glass of water and a 18 hour work day. Yep we could build some quality stuff, just like the Chinese do !!! Ya right !! You want to know how good this Chinese stuff is, buy your next set of tools from the .99 cent store and check out the quality for yourself.

Anyone who has ever run a Mori or Okuma machine tool gets frustrated trying to use a Chinese or Taiwan knock-off. Caddy vs. bad Yugo. Japan makes the best commercial machine tools in the world, and it takes good machine tools to build good cars. Ever seen a good Chinese car?

Chinese and Tiawan machine tools import from Japan all of the high-precision mechanical components (bearings, ballscrews, linear guides, etc.)for their machines. They do not have the capability to make these products to the specifications necessary to make a quality machine tool so they must import.

We can learn a lot from both countries, but not on the same level.

Chinese engine parts? The only one I would trust is the AFR manifold. Rotating parts? Not!

A machinist friend of mine that builds race engines told me that the "chinese crap" (his words)actually needs to be re-machined to get the crank journals round. Even if you do that though, how do you tell what the quality of steel being used is? The cranks sold without mentioning the brand name in catalogs and through internet race parts stores are more than likely to be this chinese crap.Be careful.

I'm interested in folks who have used CAT products as well. At first I thought it was a misprint (CAT rather than SCAT, but no...).

I have seen CHP use the stuff on a couple of builds.
