: Mysterious holes in block?

On the top of the block at the very rear there are two very small holes (approx 3/16). There is one on the drivers side, and one on the passengers. The are on top of the block behind the distributor, just in front of where the bellhousing connects, and where all of the factory stamping is. These holes appear to pass through directly into the crankcase. What are these used for? Should I just seal them up with an appropriate sized bolt? Hopefully my description is adequate. I can post a picture if necessary. As always thanks a million!.

Don't worry about them, and there is no need to plug them either.

Some cars have spark plug wire hold downs that plug in there. The holes go into the flywheel area.
