: oil pan torque sequence...necessary?
cosmic Nov 22nd, 01, 09:48 PM someone said that improper torque sequence will make a oil pan gasket seat improperly and could cause leaking at the front and rear main seals on the pan. Your experience?
What is the sequence? My experience says you goop up the corners real good with permatex and you'll be good to go.
camaroman7d Nov 23rd, 01, 07:35 AM What works for me is to start in the middle on both sides and work my way to the ends evenly. Do both side at the same time, what I mean is don't do one side and then the other. Alternate back and forth.

cosmic Nov 23rd, 01, 12:27 PM camaroman..I am the same way, and that was the topic of the conversation. This other theory was that sequence (center to ends) causes extra material (probably in hundreths) to gather at the "critical" unions of front and rear seals causing leaks?!?! Good theory, but I am still skeptical. I think I will continue doing as we have done unless someone has some GM specs.
AJBorski Nov 23rd, 01, 03:18 PM Hey bro,
Give me a call, I found some literature on this subject. A little much to post here but might shed some light into this subject. http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif

I just start in the middle and tighten everything down evenly, and use a nice bead of RTV over the gasket. I've found those Fel-Pro neoprene 1-piece oil pan gaskets work really great for preventing leaks. Especially around those damn seals that always seem to leak unless you put about 6 tubes of RTV on them.

cody Dec 12th, 01, 02:14 PM Call summit or jegs, a lot of companies make this gakset. or go to a performance store, vic hubbards in hayward, or performance plus, all in bayarea, don't know where el monte is.
camaroman7d Dec 12th, 01, 02:28 PM Detroit Gasket also makes this gasket and I actually prefer it over the Fel Pro. I have used both and you can't go wrong either way. Any decent performance shop in your area should have them. If not Summit carries the Fel Pro ones. I can get the Detroit at my local shop they cost about the same.
