Aquired a 68 with a 8.5 -10 bolt(73-81)Nova rear in it. It fits perfectly but I have a problem. I believe the 8.5 came with multileafs, however my 68 has mono's. Given this combination there is a large air gap between the plates and the spring, even with the mono spring pads installed. I have herd of people putting spacers in between, but how big 1/2 inch or 5/8. Doe's someone manufacture a spacer for this application??? This is a common swap but one that I haven't done. Help...

I would replace the leaf springs. Those mono leafs aren't very good and will sag over time. A good set of 5-leaf springs should only cost about $150. But to answer your question, just go to the parts store and get a 1 in lowering kit. In it, it will have the u-bolts and a one inch spacer. The spacer is already made to fit in the spring perch and the u-bolts will allow you to bolt it together if the t bolts are not long enough. This kit cost about $25. Be sure to measure the gap and make sure 1 inch is enough. Always put the u-bolts under the brake lines.

Just check this but I put a Nova 10 bolt Posi in my 69 and had a bitch of a time putting the drive shaft in it went but there was no slack I had to pull the drive shaft out and cut an inch out of it. It only cost $50. for a cut ballance job measure from the back of the trans to where the bearings sits in the the rear. If there is no slack when you hit a bump the suspention will flex and drive the shaft into the trans (not good).

Good point when I did this swap the drive shaft needed to be shortened about an inch. I actually found one the size I needed in a junk yard. Still needs ballanced though.
