what does cc mean?. I know it has to do with volume like combustion chambers or intake runners but what does it stand for?

or cubic centiliters

I don't want to seem like I've got a stick up my rear, but...

A cubic centiliter would actually be cl^3...a liter is already a measurement of volume. Hence, in this case, the exponent would be unecessary.

1000 cm^3 is a liter, so those 1000 cc bikes are actually 1.0 liters

Yep, and a +.030 SB Chev is 5820cc.

Everybody loves the metric system!

Heh, that's funny...

US is kinda strange when it comes to the metric system...my '86 Chevy C10 has SAE bolts for the alternator but metric bolts for the air pump. Go figure...

Could be just to measure as in cc the heads.

The metric system is pretty cool, made life alot easier when I studied Physics for four years.

A cubic centimeter is the volume that 1 milliliter of pure water at standard temp and pressure occupies. Cool thing is, one cc of water weighs a gram. The system is based upon some simple standards that are related through physical relationships, really makes conversions nice when dealing with complex problems.

That is not!!!! to say that the SAE/English system is incapable of doing great things. Iwork with alot of european engineers and scientists that can be pretty arrogant when discussing the two systems. My closing statement to them is that we were the first to put a man on the moon.....

Camaros have US style fasteners. Ricers all have metric fasteners. What else needs to be said?
