I'm due to be relocating to the Calgary area in the next couple of weeks and would appreciate any information anyone could provide on housing and schools.

I am primarily looking to live in the NE or SE areas, and schools are very important to me as I have two kids, ages 7 and 10. I will be renting, at least for the first year, but will be looking for a house as opposed to apartment, townhome, etc.

A few of the areas I have seen while researching on the internet are Deer Run, Lake Bonavista, Lake Chapparal, Sundance, and an area further out from Calgary, Chestermere. Thanks in advance.

Hey JGREEN,

I used to live in Deer Run. Rumour has it that they are going to extend Bow Bottom Trail to 22X. This is not a good thing for Deer Run. Also, they are planing to drill 6 sour gas wells S.E. of Deer Run. This really is not a big deal, but it will hurt house prices near that area until they are all capped. I do not recommend the N.E. for purchasing a home. It seems some of the areas have gained an undeserving reputation that causes house prices and value to be lower then they should be. If you know where you will be employed I will have some recommendations.

Thanks Alberta 68RS/SS. I will primarily be working near Strathmore, but will also be spending time in Red Deer, and at the office in downtown Calgary. I will be renting a house, at least for the first year, so home resale value will not be a factor for now. I have branched out in my search area to include communities in the NW quadrant such as Edgemont and Hawkwood.

If I were you I would really consider Airdrie. 15 Drive Min to Downtown - already on the way to Red Deer. All Highway to Strathmore. Housing Prices are still fairly reasonable.
