My 69 is an original small block car, now big block. I have several problems. The engine has aluminum roller rockers, no stud girdle. Short valve covers tap, tall just miss the wiper motor, slam up on the heater core. Is there any out their that are in between? What is a good fitting, good quality header I can use. The ones on it now rest on the starter, and the other side I have to remove to change the back 2 spark plugs.

I think there is a specific heater core housing for BB's. And you can't go wrong with Hooker headers. My car is a small block, but the hookers did fit perfectly.

Thanks Jim, I'll check on my heater core options, and a set of hooker's.

I am an original owner of a 69 ss 396. Bought it the year I graduated from high school and still have it. The heater cover IS different for big block cars.
You will have trouble with a couple of spark plug wires being close to the header tubes due to the tight fit of big block engines. Headman makes a couple of different headers that you should have a look at along with Hooker.

did you change the frame mounts when you went to a big block as they also are different from a small block?

I have a 69 Camaro that had a 327 in it with a/c. I bought a ZZ-502-502 for it and had to buy a big block Evaporator housing for it. You need both sides of the housing. The Evaporator is different where the POA valve goes also. I found one at Franks Pontiac in California. He is very reasonable with his prices. 1-760-789-0669. A Bird and Camaro have the came housing for a big block. Also somebody e-mailed me a few days ago with one for sale. If you need one send me a message and I'll give you his e-mail. Hope this helps.

I didn't do the swap. I bought it not knowing if it was a 6 cylinder or an original big block car. It was a small block car. Anyhow, I need a different heater core and housing, also if ya know anyone with a grill non r/s or a cowl air cleaner, please give them my e-mail address shaley@welchs.com . This is a great web site!
