I just got the word from the machine shop that one of my 186 heads is cracked. http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmilies.de/sad/bigcry.gif
If I can find another pair with a cracked head, can I use one good head from each pair, or do they need to remain as a "pair", so that when one goes bad, they are both done?

You can buy another "186" head and run it.
If they have the chamber wall modification (rare factory equiped 2.02 valves) you may have difficulty finding a good core. It is possible to match a single small valve head to a factory big valve head but that would be a lot of work and not worth the effort in most cases. If you have small valve (1.94" intakes) heads there are many more of those around. You can CC the heads if you want to verify the actual chamber volume after the valve job is done and compare the 2 heads but that is probably overkill. smile.gif

Hey quick- that's funny,I just had the exact same thing happen  . I split the boss for the screw in stud while I was torqueing down the stud. I am stuck with one bad head too! If you find a pair to buy- maybe I'll go in half-see's with ya. graemlins/beers.gif
good luck,

I have a pair of small valve 186 heads I have been considering getting rid of, but I would prefer to find a correct set of heads for my 302 before I do, just to be on the safe side. If I happen to find a set of correct heads in the next month or so I will let you know.

Thanks guys..
Stingr69: Yes, they are 2.02 heads, ported and polished.
X77Matt: Hey man, what heads do you have? I've got another pair available here locally, but they aren't 186's and I don't really want to fork out the dough. Looks like I might have to.
Gambitt: Thanks for keeping me in mind.
