: My 408 Camaro vs 03 Cobra's???
6D9 Jan 22nd, 05, 05:07 PM How do you think I stack up against most 03 Cobra's at the track?? From what I have seen most stock go like 13.0 to 13.2 stock at 110. But modded with a pullied upgrade/tune/exhaust I know they fly... Right into the 11's. How do you think I stack up?? My tires are 275/50/15 BFG drag radials with skinnies up front. Mods are in my sig.
CFunK Jan 22nd, 05, 06:46 PM What does it run currently?
6D9 Jan 22nd, 05, 07:58 PM Car is just pretty much put together. Going in for paint and body. Car feels like a beast and hopeing for low 12's to high 11's.
68rs406 Jan 22nd, 05, 08:23 PM you should run high 11's fairly easily if its a good runner and you can hook, and though i'm sure the 11 second ones are out there, i have not seen one yet. all the ones i've seen are low 13's, occasional high 12. last year i ran against one that had some stuff done to it, i don't know what, but his entourage seemed pretty impressed with it ;) . it was a fairly nice car, though.
we were in line together, and you could see the "watch me spank this old rallye wheel sportin' 327 camaro" looks he was flashing at me the whole time  . he went 12.80 (i saw a couple more passes at about that during the day), not too impressive looking in the rear veiw mirror from my 11.70 pass, however :D
my money is you shouldn't have a problem with them if its running good and you can hook, but remember theres always one out there that that just may spank you.
onovakind67 Jan 22nd, 05, 08:30 PM The Cobras we've dynoed run from 365 rwhp stock to 440 rwhp with a few mods like pulleys, exhaust, computer and air intake.
6D9 Jan 22nd, 05, 08:52 PM 68rs406, That must have been great smoking the new school muscle. They seem to have now respect for anything with a carb! I plan to get this car to hook at all costs. I know that is where the race is won. Right now it has 90/10's up front but with Hotchis sport springs. Car seems to transfer weight pretty good but plan to add some Caltracks soon. I have a buddy with one and he thinks its the chit. I hope to show him my tails when its all said and done.
onovakind67, What do you guys charge for a dyno tune??
68rs406 Jan 22nd, 05, 09:13 PM yes very much so, i was playng it cool, listening to tunes and relaxing in the staging lanes, waiting to spank some cocky guy in a new cobra. you gotta love that :D . i like those cars, don't get me wrong, but there seems to be a real feeling of "total dominance" by most of thier owners. the best part of smoking him was to smoke him, not the car, he was real cocky, guys like that are realllly fun to beat :D
as for the caltracs, i run them and have one word, hellyeah! (or is that 2?)

6D9 Jan 22nd, 05, 10:05 PM Right on man! I hope I can get these DR's to hook. If not I will go to some ET streets or MT drag radials. Also what front springs do you run?? Is your sway bar hooked up??
onovakind67 Jan 23rd, 05, 03:18 AM You can rent the dyno for $175 for two hours and 10 pulls and do the tune yourself.
If we tune it the price is $350 plus parts.
68rs406 Jan 23rd, 05, 08:22 PM my cars suspension couldn't be much simpler. the springs are stockers, fronts are factory coils for my car, (smallblock, rs), the springs are stock 69 ss350 multi leafs, my buddy gave them to me for taking them off his car :D . good ol 50/50 gas shocks on all four corners. then to top it off, i put on caltracs. sway bar, etc is all hooked up, its exactly how i drive it around town
with this suspension setup, 275/60-15 drag radials, rallye wheels on all four corners and 215/50-15's on front, it literally dead hooks almost every time (a say almost because i fought it a bit last fall, last day at the track, it was way cold, and way tore up). i run 1.63-1.64 60' times bracket car consistent all day long like that, even with power steering and brakes, and all the rs equipment hanging off the nose.
so it definately can be easily done, i attribute most of my success to the caltracs, they work just awesome, i could even feel them working on the street, although traction is still nil on the asphalt.
this year i'm going to do a couple little things to get some faster times, just because. obviously i havn't really even tried to squeeze the most out of my car yet. its mostly a street cruiser and i like to take it to the track occasionally too, so i have left all of the creature comforts intact. i spend most of my time at the track racing with my buddys pro street nova, it occupies most of my time anymore. which is fine, keeps my car more streetable. ;) with the rollbar restriction et lowered, i'm going to hit some more events this year, however. that is if i get the time.

6D9 Jan 24th, 05, 02:30 AM Cool, Sounds like I should be able to get what I have working just fine. If not I will swap in some 6 cyl springs. Also for sure the Caltracs.
How much converter run running??
Silver69Camaro Jan 24th, 05, 06:12 AM Sean, was that Mustang black in color? If it was, I gave him a good spanking too. He pulled ahead because I was asleep at the light, and I wiped the big smile off his face as I wizzed past at the 330' mark. He ran a 12.8X.
csn69ss Jan 24th, 05, 02:11 PM Those Caltracs get a lot of good comments from different owners here.
I always had problems with hooking up with my 68 Camaro, I wonder if anybody knows where I can buy the Caltracs online.
68rs406 Jan 24th, 05, 04:33 PM my converter is a 10" 3500, its actually one of the areas i'm going to adress, maybe this year. its not really a true 3500, more like about 3300. its actually a good converter, billet hub, anti ballon plates, etc., but i had a 350 in my car when i had it made, and had the guy who did it tighten it up some. i know i need a bit more stall now, and have a guy thats good with converters, now i just need to yank it out. its down the list a couple though.
Matt, no, it was a real nice looking blue, kind of an "electric blue", like the lightnings, and it had "R" emblems on the side. sound like similar cars though. my car hooks so darn well, i left him and never looked back. it feels good huh? :D
heres were i bought my caltracs calvert racing (http://www.calvertracing.com/) right from site, came pretty quick, and were very good to deal with, i highly reccomend them.
