what application a block was used for, i have a 3970010 block and know they used that cast on 302, 327, and 350 applications how do you tell which it originally was?

By the suffix at the end of the pad stamp code, and by the VIN derivative stamp adjacent to it.

Doesn't match up? The cast date is K-5-8 and is a 4 bolt whats up with that? the stamp on the pad is V1117TBM

Cast in Nov. 1978 for a 1979 truck.
