i have a carter qjet that has been rebuilt and came off a 76 350 gmc pickup. i cant afford another carb, so would like to change jets and rods in this one to fit my ohc250 project. i know what size i would want for the original carb which was a rochester, but this carter has no numbers on it that the parts guys can cross over to tell me what parts will fit.
i have been told that it takes the same jets and rods as the rochester, and i have also been told that it doesnt.
i tried doing some searching on carter qjets, and it looks like there were 2 or 3 different ones. the only number i can find which means anything on this carb is 50029. but that still doesnt help me.

if anyone can help me identify this carb, or tell me what i can use in it, i would appreciate it.
the orig carb for the car was a rochester 7028260 which i think was a 750cfm, and had .071 primary and .1365 secondary jets. primary metering rod .047 and secondary AJ. i really dont know that much about carbs if you cant tell.

Look for numbers stamped into carb (not raised up) above the secondary throttle shaft, stamped into the center bowl, on the drivers side of carb. Best way to see numbers is with carb off and turned sideways. Carter built Q-jets sometimes left of the first two or three numbers that were stamped on Rochester built carbs. There should be two rows of numbers, the top/larger is for the part#, the lower/smaller is the date code.

thanks. it has #7044223 which is a 1974 R4-4MV carb for a 454 chevy AT.
i'm still having trouble with part finding. everything i look at says it is for a rochester instead of a carter.
i guess if i go up to carquest with my newfound info they might be able to help me now.
thanks again

thanks.
i found out carter was making quadrajets for rochester... to rochester specs. the parts are interchangeable. this is one of those carbs. yaayy!
i also found out that pre 75 carbs are better. that's good news too. the secondary hanger and rods that are spec'd to my engine are not available, but there are close substitutes.

i just need to make sure t's a 750cfm carb. it just occurred to me that coming off a 454 it might be an 800. anybody know how to tell? this carb was sold to me as a replacement carb for a chevy 350 from a parts house, and it ran fine.

The 800's have slightly larger primary bores then the 750's and also have little rounded "knot's" for want of a better word inside the primaries to one side of the bores so look for them..

They are about the size od a 1/4 of a dimes arc..
