I just parted a 1969 factory 4 speed v-8 Firebird and was kind of surprised to see a factory clutch pedal switch which acts as a non-start switch unless you push the clutch pedal. Were 69 Camaros the same ? I mostly only worked on factory automatic cars so this is kind of new to me.

Yes, they were the same on 69 Camaros.

Don't you have to depress the clutch on any car to start it? Did the earlier Camaro's (67 and 68) work the same way?

The switch on my 69 was bypassed by the previous owner. He hooked the two purple wires that go the switch together to make the connection. You could start the car while it was in gear!! http://www.camaros.net/forum/eek.gif

My '69 Z28 came with one from the factory but was missing when I bought it. I bought one and installed it after my son got in the car one day and turned the key while it was in reverse. Luckily it didn't start because it probably would have went through the garage door if it had http://www.camaros.net/forum/eek.gif I think it's a great safety item to have on a 4speed car.

Do you know where this switch can be ordered? I have looked everywhere!

I believe I posted a question one time concerning this switch, and I mentioned that mine was missing. Someone said they had one for sale, so I bought it. Rick's 1st Generation has one in their catalog, part number SW16. The rod is sold separately that attaches to the switch and clutch. The price wasn't listed, it was one of those parts that say call to get price.

They say "call" because they only have them used - they aren't reproduced; same switch was used on the Nova. You also need the link rod and a plastic bushing where the link rod goes through the hole in the clutch pedal arm.

Thanks for the the info! Called Ricks and they wanted $60 for the used switch. Not worth it to me. I'll have to fabricate something so they will let me run at the track.
