I recently installed a 12 bolt Moser rear in my 69 camaro but the spring perch/brackets (not sure what they are called) look a little too deep for the 3 leaf springs. I am using a traction bar with a 4 bolt mounting bracket that attaches directly to the u-bolts under the springs. Below is a link to pictures that will better explain what I am talking about. I am using polyurathane spring pads from energy suspension but it doesn't take much torque to get the traction bar plate to touch metal to metal with the spring perch on the rear. My question is should I torque the u-bolts until the traction bar meets the spring perch? If I weld a plate on top of the traction bar how thick should the plate be? Thanks in advance.

First, why do you only have 3 springs? There should be 4 for a Z-28 spring and 5 for the others. If you have removed a spring then you should add a shim the same thickness.

The bought the car 14 years ago with monoleafs. I bought springs from a local spring shop back then but didn't know enough to ask for 4 or 5 leaf. Installing 4 or 5 leaf is probably the correct thing to do.

If you like the ride height and performance of your springs, I would weld a piece of metal on top of the traction bars. It should be high enough to leave a space between the peches and traction bars so you can clamp them with U bolts.

Maybe you'll want to change the rear ride height and you could then add some 1/2 to 1" blocks to make up the difference.

I myself have three leafs, although they are custom built for the type of driving I do, I myself added 1/2" lowering blocks.

Whatever you do, you must leave a hole for the locating pin in the spring so the rear end doesn't slide around on the spring.
