Hello,
I am research the T-56 swap into my 427 powered TH350 68 convertible. So far it looks like I have two choices of transmissions:
1) The used "take out" from a 94-97 Camaro, $1150.00 (450 lb/ft of torque)
2) The aftermarket unit sold at the Chevy dealer for $2295.00 (400 lb/ft of torque)

I am leaning towards the used transmission since I am starting from scratch in terms of manual transmission parts. The following is the list that I have compliled so far, Do you think it is complete? What am I missing? Please help fill in the missing pieces....

1)T-56 from the junkyard $1150.00
2)Weir Hot Rod Products T-56 conversion kit- Cast aluminum heat treated bellhousing, hydraulic release bearing assembly, steel block plate, pressure and bleed tube, all necessary bolts. Also, Master cylinder kit. $560 + $66 for the master cylinder kit.
3)Crossmember (don't know what to use)
4)1968 Clutch and brake peddle assmebly ($75.00)
5)Transmission mount ($20.00)
6)Centerforce pressure plate (200.00?)
7)Centerforce II clutch ($500.00)
8)flywheel ($200.00)
9)shifter ($200.00?)
10)Drive shaft modification ($160.00)
11)Hydraulic clutch master cylinder assembly (part # 12559912)($122.00)
12)Drive shaft slip yoke

So it looks like I am over $3000.00 without even considering the small nickel and dime stuff. Where can I cut corners? Please add to the list and make suggestions on how to do this swap for less money!
Thanks
Rick

looks pretty good. I'd stay far away from the Centerforce clutches. The LT1 owners are bitching up a storm abut how terrible thet are. Also, you won't need the GM hydraulic actuator if you are going with the Weir kit. Crossmemeber is around 90 bucks for a new GM turbo 400 mount, and you can modify it for around 100 in labor if you have someone else do it. The list looks very complete. I'll look at some notes i have, and see if i can't get you every single part i used to convert from a BB with a turbo 400 to a small block with a six speed.
Note to anyone- The t56 install kit, made by me is 600 bones, comparable to weir, and INCLUDES the crossmember. No welding required, and no exotic aftermarket parts to fail. All my stuff is GM.

Teetoe I have a centerforce II clutch in my car and have not had any problems and I would stand behind centerforce clutches they are the best. Matt 383 6 speed. PS also check out gmpartsdirect.com for your 6 speed swap parts at dealers cost.

Matt, you must be one of the lucky few, or you don't drive it like you stole it http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif
I have Mc Leod in my car, and it rocks. I saw a thread 5 pages long at CamaroZ28.com about how terrible they are.

Teetoe I dont know what to say what did they say the problem was with the centerforce? It is the centerforce II clutch? Hey teetoe I was interested in one of your crossmember that you have for sale, my six speed is done but I am interested in your crossmember I have everything else and you seem like a nice guy. Do you have any pictures of it and how much does just your crossmember cost? I just got doing a 3 gear burnout it my car today and have had no problem with my clutch it was over 500 dollars but just because it costs alot doesnt mean anything. I went with centerforce because stielow used it in all of his cars and personally recommended it to me. If I have a problem I will let you know. TEETOE JONE check out chevy high performance page 121 for project 50 50 it might help you out since you are using a ls-1. Matt

It may be only the LT1 users having a problem wih the dual frictions, but since i am a LT1 owner, i opted for Mc Leod. They said the clutches were slipping worse than stock, and burning up like candy. I saw the CHP article, they are mostly the same as the hydraulics i used in my car, but the LS1 and T56 transaxle requires a vette unit, which is totally different. My crosssmembers are almost identical to Stielow's thrasher version. They are fully TIG welded, and will bolt in, no mods. I don't have any pics right now, and i belive they are 200-250, i can't remeber. (i usually don't seperate, so i need to see my cost break down.) If need be, email me, and we can discuss it further.
