I am having a problem getting a set of plugs to fit around my headders. I have Afr heads and they recemmond the Fr3ls so that is what I bought but after I installed them there is no way I will be able to put the spark plug boots over them. I am useing the headdmen 1 3/4 long tubes and they are ceramic coated and I don't want to ding up this coating or go hammering on a new set of nice lookin headders. I I called NGK and talked with their tech about it and he said that they don't make a plug for a short application. I know accell makes a short plug but I do not think that it is the right heat range for my application. I can't be the only guy in this situation. What are some of then things that you guys have done? What can I do ?

Now you know why I refuse to buy pre-coated headers.
I would try a set of shorty accel plugs. As long as the reach and seat are correct they should be ok. You don't want too cold of a plug or they will foul too easily. For your application a heat range equivalent to a ac r44 works fine. Thats what I use in my 10.3-1 388 with iron heads, and they run clean and it doesn't ping.

Ditto i think accel does make a good variety of heat ranges for their shorty plugs you should be able to find something close enough that you couldn't tell the difference.

Which hedman's did you get and what is their port dimensions if you don't mind. I was looking at 1 3/4" but someone posted that they use the same flange as their 1 5/8".

ok so i went out and bought the Accel spark plugs today and I brought them home only to find that they are a different reach then the FR3Ls plugs that i had. I am screwed!

What do you mean by different reach?

The end where the electrode is on the new plugs, is about a 1/4 in shorter. In other words I do not think that the new plugs iwill reach far enough into the head. I think that they will be shallow in the plug hole.

I bought the accel shorties and thought the same thing. I have stock 882 heads, but my car runs fine. Give them a try, they will probably work fine.

Yes they will work but you will be loosing a lot of horsepower and more strain on your motor. The combustion chamber is designed to have the air fuel mixture ignited at the optimum location in the chamber, to have the best burn pattern. If the spark plug does not extend into the combustion chamber, the initial ignition is in the spark plug hole, not in the chamber, thus causing a bad burn pattern and possibility of detonation. Optimum is the electrode just sticking out of the head, and the gap toward the piston.
