Hello all. I just wanted to share my happy news with you. graemlins/waving.gif

For the past several weeks (months actually), I've been shopping diamonds and planning to pop the question to Joan, my girlfriend of nearly 6 years. The plan was to make it a complete surprise... which is hard to do when she is expecting you to propose soon... and she is very adept at figuing out when I am up to something...

So, I went to scheming... I shopped for and purchased a diamond and had it set in a custom band. I then had to figure out her ring size, which required sneaking into her apartment one day while she was at work. I went up and visited her parents without her knowing and asked them for their blessing, which they gladly gave. Then I had to devise a way to get her to Williamsburg (where I wanted to propose). Lucky for me, Joan wanted to go to Virginia Beach for the weekend! However, she had to work on Saturday and was having trouble finding someone to cover her shift... but Joan's parents helped out in that respect... her mom went and talked to the manager and got him to find somebody to take it.

It was really hard to not tell her! Especially when she emailed me on Friday saying "hey... what time are you getting off of work on Friday... because I have a surprise and want to call you." She thought since she had Saturday off she would just show up and surprise me... Joke was on her! Her mom and I are the ones that got her out of work!

So on Saturday morning we went and stopped in Williamsburg to walk around the William and Mary campus where we both went as undergrads... got to the Crim Dell (a beautiful little romantic bridge on campus) and I popped the question. She said yes. She was very happy. After a few moments of recovering from the surprise, I looked at my watch and said "well, we gotta go! Lunch reservations!"

Then came surprise number two... we got to the restaraunt and I had arranged that our parents would all be there! Again, Joan was surprised. It was great! Got her twice in one day!

Anyway, she had no idea. It was wonderful.

We did make it down to the beach and the weather was wonderful. A great weekend. I'm very happy.

Now, on to wedding planning! graemlins/hurray.gif

Congratulations! Getting married and law school? Your plate must be full.

Are there plans to tie a string-o-cans to the Camaro bumper? A pre-wedding burnout? How about a TC lapel pin? :D

Congratulations and may God bless your future life! My advice to you would be to make sure you two are the best of friends. Marriages don't last because people are only thinking of themselves and not of their spouse. I wish you two the best.

Thanks guys!

I'm really excited. Yes, it is going to be a full plate... I'm in law school, she's in med school, and we've now got a wedding to plan!

I think it fitting that the other John Doyle was the first to reply to my post! Thanks John! :D

Actually... we were joking about how and where to get married the other day... she loves horses and I love cars... we were curious if there were any sort of joint horse-and-horsepower event. ;)

If I can ever finish up this Camaro interior... a smokey burnout after the wedding sounds like a great plan! graemlins/hurray.gif

Cheers all! graemlins/beers.gif

Okay I got it. JD and JD.

A Lawyer and a Doctor. Your plates will always be full. Up side, future budgets should allow for some really nice Camaros (and horses of course).

So ends one of the longest chapters of your life, John; the one that began at birth. Now you begin a new chapter, one that will take you places you could never have imagined. Marriage is as much a journey as it is a battle. It won't always be easy, but it will be rewarding if you work at it. Sounds like you've got the right girl after 6 years of dating...I think the two of you are going to be just fine. But enjoy your noteriety while it lasts, when the kids come, you'll be yesterday's news so fast it'll make your head spin. Marriage won't change your life, but the kids surely will. They will turn your world upside down...but you'll never have anything in your life that your more proud of. That car in the garage won't even compare. You'll love every minute of it. But that's not until later...go have your fun and congratulations to you and Joan.

And best wishes. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Thank you. I'm pretty excited about kids actually. Some of my other married friends have started having kids and I can see the love and pride in their newborn just beaming from their faces. I think Joan and I will wait a little while though... at least until we're both done with school.

Hmmmm... a picture.

Here is one I had on my computer and put it on the website... not the best picture of the two of us... but we're looking into getting a professional photo sooner or later (for wedding invitations perhaps...). Most of the good photos of us together are not digitized... I need to get a hold of a scanner.

Yup, I'm a lucky man! Not only is she smart, beautiful, caring, and understanding... she likes old cars and is very supportive of the hobby!

... as long as it doesn't interfere with me pampering her at her bidding. tongue.gif

Joe is right, stop already with the mushy stuff. Makes me want to go watch Oprah.

Is her engagement diamond in the shape of a piston, camshaft or maybe a miniature Holley 750 DP? ;)

Congrats John and Good Luck!

Jun 30th, 04, 03:43 AM
Sorry guys... I was getting too sentimental back there... tongue.gif

Thanks for all the support and well-wishes. No, not a piston... although it is round and you could say it looks sort of like it is a domed high-compression piston. ;)
