I am going to look at a 69 rs that the owner says has a 350. Is there any way to tell by looking at the engine that it is a 350 and not a 327 or some other engine? I was wondering more about visual clues or stamps in the block than the serial number. Thanks a lot for the help.

Sorry, forgot to also ask when the 350 first became available in the first generation camaro. I was not sure if it was always an engine option or if it was added later. Thanks again.

Don't bet the farm on visual cues -

look at the front pad for build info (front of block - passenger side - where head meets block)

Block casting MAY help - but may use same casting for 327 vs 350 (after all we're talking small block chevy's)

About the only cue that comes to mind (and this may not be foolproof) - the 350 used a bigger harmonic balancer - also, since the harmonic balancer is larger, the power steering bracket is different (at least for '67) - so if you know what the balancers look like (and the brackets) - you can tell... (I have pictures of both if you are interested)

Also - FYI - 1967 SS was the first Camaro to get a 350.
