View Full Version : Oil Fill Tube
Kent H Sep 3rd, 01, 02:58 PM Hi folks. Been watching a while, but just starting to post.
My question is, if the oil fill tube on a SB is in the front of the intake, does that make it a 67 engine?
Thanks for any help!

memcgraw Sep 3rd, 01, 04:22 PM Welcome Kent H!! I'm not sure if the oil fill tube identifies it as a 67 but I think it does indicate it is a 67 or earlier block as I think PVC setups were required starting in 68.
Best way to check is probably post the codes off the block.
The 327 in my 67 had the fill tube.

boodlefoof Sep 3rd, 01, 04:38 PM the 327 in my '68 had a fill tube.
Joe G Sep 3rd, 01, 07:54 PM Was there any 69 engine that had the oil fill in the front? (Maybe a non-CA small block?)
Trying to figure out if an engine looks correct.
thanks

Jonesy Sep 3rd, 01, 08:27 PM No, the last year was 1968.
Joe G Sep 4th, 01, 05:41 PM Did any 69 302's have the intake manifold that had the "plug" in front that an oil fill tube could be installed in?
Were there any 69 302 non-CALIF cars that did not have smog pumps and AIR?
Thanks

Dans67 Sep 4th, 01, 07:57 PM Actually, the PCV was always there, just in a different spot. On 67 and earlier engine, the crankcase vent is in the back of the block, to the side of the distributor. My 67 had the filler neck, and I believe that 68's did as well. But it ended there.

JohnZ Sep 8th, 01, 03:32 PM ALL '69 302's had A.I.R., and the intake had the oil fill tube hole in it, with a 1-1/4" brass plug in it.

elcamino72 Sep 9th, 01, 12:18 PM Hi, my father's 1968 L30/M20 Camaro has the tube in the intake manifold. The casting number for the intake is 391980 3 GM4 and the date code is E138.
