I have hooker super comp headers with 1 3/4 down tubes to 3" primaries. It's snug between the power steering pump on one side, and very close with the idler arm on the other. I suspect this is the case with any header, but works great. I dont have AC or anything so I can't speak for that, but mine seems to fit just fine with some persuasion. You may also want to check Summit Racing, they're pretty good about knowing what fits what as far as headers go. ------------------ Shawn "My Camaro is a money pit" Peterson mwh Nov 18th, 99, 01:11 PM Shawn, Do you still have your steering wheel lockout installed or do the headers get in the way? What about the clutch return spring? Thanks, Marc 69 Z28 Shawn Nov 19th, 99, 10:32 AM Marc, I probably should have clarified another thing... I don't have an M22 in mine anymore, it's got a TH 400, so no clutch return spring to worry about. As for the steering lockout, I'm not sure what you mean? On the PS pump side the pitman arm has full throw in both directions without interference. The idler arm is extremely tight, you can see where it has touched the header a few times. There is a very small ding in the down tube, but nothing that is a problem. The wheels will go to the steering stops on the A-Arm and spindle without trouble. Where is the steering lockout that you're refering to ? ------------------ Shawn "My Camaro is a money pit" Peterson MikeDF80 Nov 19th, 99, 11:38 AM On my car the clutch return spring just rubs against the one tube. I was going to move the spring location, but I never got around to it. mwh Nov 22nd, 99, 11:07 AM Shawn, The steering lock-out comes off of the shifter mechanism, and is actuated when the car is put in reverse. Through a series of rods and levers, an arm on the column is turned that will lock the column. Obviously the key has to be in the off position for this to work, otherwise backing up would be a real trick. Since you have the TH400, none of the mechanism would be present, other than maybe the lever on the steering column. MikeDF80, what kind of headers do you have on your car? Thanks, Marc 69 Z28 jimzab Dec 8th, 99, 09:39 PM greg, I have a 68 327 conv. I have dart 202 heads with angle plugs. Because of the angle plugs i was limited to two headers. I went with Hooker super comps with 1 5/8 primary's. The passenger side fell into place but it was resting against the idler arm attached to the frame. I dimppled the header to provide clearance. The driver side was a real bitch. I started losing patience. I gave it a days break and came back to it. The steering box was the culprit. I then decided that i would remove the steering box. It was only three bolts and then two bolts to the steering column. The header fell into place along with sliding the steering box up with it. a real breeze. almost forgot the pitman arm had to be banged of with a ball joint removal tool. a real picnic |
