I had a set of heads cleaned up and turned out they were cracked, so I was given a set of 3927185 casting heads, they are 1969 327 2 barrel heads, 70cc, 1.72 intake 1.50 exhaust valve sizes

my question is will these choke the motor down real bad? they are ported on the intake side and i'm gonna port the exhaust side when i get'em back, i'm just worried about that small valve, will .22 of an inch make a big difference over my old unported heads with 1.94 valves?

drag racing, it wont see much use above 5500 rpm though

i have a lunati .480 lift, 230 @ .050 and 292 adv. duration

9:1 compression

you could always just install the larger valves. What size engine? Sounds like a lot of cam for such small heads.

I agree that the cam you are talking about, and intended use is out of this heads capability range. You can put in a 1.84'' intake valve from a 305 head to help out a bit, but doing work to them won't net you as big an increase in power as going with other heads. I used to have these heads on my '68.

Get some better heads you can get some good cast head for not that much money like the Dart Iron Eagle they come with 2.02 and 1.6, you will have much better heads and more power.

I have that same cam but made by Melling in my 9.5 to 1 406 with stock big valve -461 heads on it. It's the engine I jerked out to make way for my 496 BB.

My 26.5" tall L-60 tires and 3.31's were too much for it b/c I was still "on the cam" cruising around town. Above say about 2500 to 3000rpm and it ran very well!!

May I suggest using a CC 268HE instead b/c it will produce more low and midrange torque that you really need. Imho. pdq67

I had a 327 in a 69 with the 185 heads and factory 2 bbl carb. I put a performer rpm intake on it and a 750 holley vac sec and also swapped a 750 dp on it too. The cam I had in it was an erson 472 adv. lift with a 296 duration and a hei distributor. It was all pretty much stock other than that. Although with the big carb on it if it hooked up out of the hole it would bog down. If I feathered it out of the hole with it spinning then nailed it, it would move on pretty damn good for what it was. It would turn low 9's in the 1/8 spinning the right rear almost all the way down the track. I was really surprised how much rpm I could get from those heads although they don't look too good on paper!!

boodlefoof, if i'm not mistaken 305 heads have problems with the valves being shrouded, those would take a bit of work also

JD68, those darts are $595 bare http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif thats a lotta money, i wont be able to offord anything in that range for a long time, i couldn't even offord another set of 993's for $50, i got these cause they were free

pdq, was your cam the exact same specs as this one? Lunati is the only company I found that uses relatively low lift when compared to duration, other companies i saw with this amount of duration had over .500 lift and the LSA was tighter than 109. I'm not a big fan of comp or crane cams, that 268H isn't all that good in my opinion, I chose a 284 adv. duration and 218 @ .050 with .458 lift, Lunati cam previously instead of that 268H and it kicked ass with my 2 barrel carb and 2.56 gears http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

bedanobub, that posts makes me feel better http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif I'm gonna port these a little to help'em flow a little better, I had 993 heads that weren't ported with that lunati cam i meantioned above, with a stock intake and 2 barrel carb and 2.56 gears, and ran 9.1's in the 1/8th

I bought it from PAW years and years ago and it was a Melling CRV-2 grind. It may not have been identical but close enough.

It's not listed on their web site, http://www.melling.com/production2.htm

so can't really say. I do have a piece a paper somewhere that has it's timing numbers listed but like usual, I would be hard pressed ta put my hands on it. Heck, I think it is in the trunk of my car!! Go figure?? pdq67

Now that I think about it, seems like it is 292/230, 109/109, .480"/.480"(??).
